Whats your go to air filter?

Well folks I haven't been on here in quite a while. But today I need a new air filter.

Curious on what your go to air filter is.

On my side My Taco is my daily driver and I don't put many miles on it throughout the year due to work being 10 miles away and my kids are less a mile round trip for school.

I do live in a high dust area

I also work at an auto parts store and some of the guys all drove in circles on this (as I expect to have happen on here)

But lets hear what you use but would like to know which product you use over an other and why.

Cabin or Engine filter?

 

I just pick up a Fram air filter from Wal-mart once a year. I live in Florida and all my driving is on paved roads, so even after a year the filter is not that dirty. I've tried K/N filters on my other truck but the oil in the filter messed with the MAF sensor. Cleaning the MAF sensor and then having to clean and re-oil the K/N was a waste of my time, even if it is only once a year.

oooooh - can of worms! Since you work at a parts store, buy a premium air filter (you know the premium filter brands you sell) and change it regularly. You'll be fine and your motor will be fine.

 

Used Napa Gold, then found out Wix is the same filter, so Wix it is.

 

Engine

Although ironically I just replaced my cabin air filter. It was the original air filter and my taco has 43000. Sure I'm responsible for when I got it (around 35000) but it still meant it should have been replaced twice.

I picked up our house brand (only thing we stock for the cabin filter) and finally replaced it.

 

Apparently Wix is Microguard as well.

So long as you don't over oil it after cleaning you will have no issues

 

Anything but K&N.

 

A little bit of hate towards K&N?

 

Those oiled K&N filters are crap. Any good paper filter will work better.

 

Oil fouls up the mass air flow sensor.

 

from reading around it seems just simply over oiling will cause that. Its supposed to be coated not drenched. Of course this is just from me reading and not using the that particular product.

The only thing it gave me in return on my Audi was an evening of taking the throttle body out and cleaning it to remove the CEL that it caused.

 

OEM only.

 

Afe pro dry - engine air
Napa gold / wix - engine oil
Oem - cabin air

 

I guess in my case I would only use the K&N if Im doing sole off roading. Just doing it on a cost basis

Just looking solely at Amazon Prices

K&N Filter and recharge kit around ~$60

Other filters $15-$25 (depending on brand)

Meaning in just one initially purchase the K&N replaces 2-6 filters.

Recharge kits ive read does between 3-4 recharges

Mind I say off road or extreme use only application because it does pay itself off and then some

But for this application I think I would reach the year mark before I need to replace/re charge making getting the K&N a pointless task and round up to nil on it.

(I do use K&N as my oil filter)
