She had a Chevy Blazer when we first met, now after being with me for nearly 10 years, she fell in love with the Tacomas...doesn't want anything else.

I am waiting to see the '16 in person...maybe by that time I will be over the grill.

Funny you say "his and hers" I asked her if having two Tacoma would be silly, she said not at all.

I see an access cab off road for you and a double cab SR5 for her. A match "made" in Mexico...Baja.

Ha! I was thinking of that exact combo.

Speaking of Baja...it has been a couple years since I have been down there, getting the itch again. We used to go down there once a year.

Of course we'll need to see pictures with the new trucks.

I have a hard time seeing the normally aspirated 4 cylinder survive by 2020. Toyota will have to get a turbo in. I'd love to see Toyota slap a turbo on the 2.7l.

My vote is for the D-4s system in the 2.7L 4cyl w/MT. Good MPG/power/cost of ownership combination.

    Previously:
    1988 Toyota Truck. 22RE AT w/OD. Reg Cab. 4x2. 450,000 miles.
    2005 Tacoma 2TR-FE 5sp Reg Cab. 4x2. 671,000 miles.

    Next:
2016 Tacoma PreRunner Access Cab. 5sp. Color TBD.
Black aftermarket grill and aftermarket rims immediately.
I will put one million miles on this sucker.

Wow, impressive mileage! Thought I was doing good for having nearly 300,000 on one of mine.

Built for maximum low end torque, tooter II.VII intake manifold spacer, LCE long tube header, Injen long tube intake, 2,900 rpm torque peak.
My stripped 2.7 2wd single cab works for me and even makes money. :)

I believe a 4 banger in any larger and heavier chassis, or with 4x4, or an auto trans would stretch its stock capabilities. So I tricked out my engine for more pull at less rpms. On the dyno it gets 23% more torque and hits its peak 1,000 rpms sooner than stock. And this is plenty for my needs.

Over sized tires plus 4WD have always been the problem. Of course this was why the 20R engine was bored out to create the 22R series. I am still suspicious that some tweak is gonna be there. Toyota, I knpw what you're gonna do this summer.

    Interesting engine modifications sir.

It is a lot of fun to realize and live the durability that Tacos are capable of.

That would be a boom to basic transportation owners.....probably not for profits. How many v6 toyota buyers would stay with a four that had over 200 hp and 200 lb ft of torque ? Though it's still a car engine, the Venza/Highlander 2.7 has about 180 each without D4S. So, more powerful motors can be had, easily. Of course, high end sales would drop.....can't have any of that. Toyota puts as much thought into engineering for profit as it does for practicality. After all, how else does one stay in business ? Toyota did practically nothing to improve the 2nd gen for ten years; why would they try to stay too far ahead and loose that last bit of profit. Drug and car companies are not that much different in some respects. But, maybe with the gen. 3.1 you could see a 2.5 D4S.

Maybe if the Tacoma stayed a mini-truck. I kinda wish it wouldn't of grown in size, and just kept on tweaking the power plant. I would assume mileage could of went higher if they kept the platform small.

I dunno, I am actually considering buying another 1st gen, and just keep two of them in rotation as they break. Instead of dropping $30K+ on a new truck...that money will keep a couple of old trucks on the road for a loooong time.

My only gripe about the first gens, is that the extra cab doesn't open like on the access cabs. Other than that it is fine for 95% of the stuff I do.

Finally somebody said the obvious thing.
Tacoma should not have grown like it did, that 2.7 and 3.5 would have been perfect options for Mini-truck.
At the current size (which is almost F150 double cab with short bad ) it needs either more power or get smaller.
    No way around it.

Ok but its not fair you have 6 lug comparing to 5 lug.... :D
Still valid point, 2Gen is way too big.
They should have stayed withing the old size footprint, but instead current Tacoma is like old Tundra and new Tundra is the size of oil tanker.

I don't have a 6 lug and never have. All 3 of mine have been 5 lug reg cabs

Hence when I said 'The smallest available Tacoma'

Thats a 5 lug? it looks so big, my bad than. I thought that was pre runner or 4x4 it looked so tall. But if its 5 lug that's exactly the point.

That was Betty, yea. 2008, 4 cyl, 5 speed, reg cab, bone stock.

The 06 I have now is the first one not 100% stock in that regard, when I put the 225/75 Wrangler A/Ts on it, so it sits a bit higher and looks a bit bigger.
