I have..are you looking for a speed run, or a beautiful drive? I lived in Eureka for 7 years as a kid :)

For the beautiful drive, take 299. If you take Hwy 3 North at Weaverville, you can drive by Trinity Lake, which is pretty much a mud puddle at this point. (was last fall) Still a nice, scenic drive. Curvy, but still a pretty drive.

You can also take 299 East all the way to Redding, which is also a curvy road, but will take you by Whiskeytown Rec area. Whiskeytown Reservoir should be full, and very very picturesque.

Been years since I have taken 36, but I do recall spending alot of time at Ruth Lake as a kid. Either route will take you through the mountains, which for me is always cool. Going 36 will dump you at Red Bluff as opposed to Redding....

    Enjoy!

okay. you are exactly the person i need to talk to haha.

i am trying plan my route out a little better. I am going down to sacramento from PDX tomorrow actually..

Currently my plan is to head down I5 from pdx, and then take the OR199 from grants pass over towards crescent city. my girlfriend and i were going to explore Jedediah Smith park and try to hit Avenue of the Giants and all that good stuff in Redwood National Forest.

from there, i wanted to cut back over to I5 and book it down to sacramento.

my whole thing is that i was planning on leaving PDX early in the morning and doing all of this in one day. I need to be in sacramento by 1030pm ish, so really im just looking for the fastest route back to I5 from eureka area.

For speed run from Eureka is probably 36. It is less "mountainous" on the Red Bluff side, and will drop you farther South, so closer to Sac.

That is going to be a lot of seat time! IIRC, the 199 is a nice drive as well, but it has been a few years since I drove that way. When we go to hunting property, we shoot I5 to Yreka, then 3 to Douglas City, our camp is up in the mountains out of Douglas City...

yeah ive got a bunch of snacks all packed haha. i guess ill take the 36 then. i was trying to find some reading on it online, but all i could find were rv/motorhome forums that did NOT recomend the 36 because it was unpaved?

im guessing its because its a hassle towing a trailer or driving a big rv through there. I did see on a motorcycle forum, that they really enjoyed the 36. so i guess it just depends what youre looking for.

thanks for your input. ive never been down there before so this is really helpful.

Anyone know the right way to remove this off the end of my CV? I already took the retaining ring off.
I couldn't get a three jaw puller to grasp it, maybe it was just really worn out...
I was able to get the first one apart with a hammer and a junk screwdriver used as a chisel, but the screwdriver gave out.

Well, some of it you know, but it's like this:
I didn't like my rear spring setup so I had a bunch of crazy ideas on how to fix it up. The only thing that really played out was getting a shackle flip made by famous fab, which I installed, but I never got around to buying the right size shackles. I was still grumpy about the rear springs, and I finally decided to do something about it. At the same time I got the idea that I wanted to quit being weird, complicated, and half assed, and just get it done. That's why I'm back on standard shackles, the AP springs, and the kings are in process.
Ben got a hookup on shackles and so the flip is something he going to try.

I'm not sure if I'm going to have any prowess at welding after just one college class (lol), but I'm tempted to make more for fun if I get a chance to improve. Oxy acetylene takes practice, I'm wondering how the other types are

I don't have access to a torch until tomorrow, and they probably frown on me using the class torch on a semi greasy shaft, lol.
I did some reading and it looks like everyone uses a brass drift punch, but of course that's a specialty tool and I can't buy one until Monday. I swear I'm going to open a tool shop that's only open on weekends, but I'll totally kill for sales.
My buddy has something you spray on that is called 'cold off' or something like that, which worked wonders when we had to separate a windshield wiper arm that had fused to its transmission...

    epic sigh

I had one of the inner boots tear. Looking at my records, I'm tearing inner boots almost once a year. Also noticed the driver side was getting ready. Decided to take matters on and went with the cvj extended boots. Pics up later.
