Right, but then you'd feel an incredible need to be a lesbian, and it would go downhill from there

I do wish mine had a 5 or 6 speed auto. The gear spacing of the 4 speed is a little too far apart. Although I'm just over an hour from really flat coastal plains, in central Texas it can get pretty hilly which requires the transmission to downshift on the uphill sections. It would be nice to have another gear or 2 so the rpm change would not be so drastic.

Wife has a six speed auto in her Venza. I thought the five speed in my truck was head and shoulders better then the 4 speed auto, but a six speed is better still. The motor always seems to be in the right gear. Can imagine it will be the same for the 2016 trk.

Random question but......do ya'll think that for 2016 there will be a cheap 4cyl PreRunner model that looks way better than the 5-lug but costs just a bit more? It's the kind of Taco I'm looking to get, but if the 2015's are all ate up before I'm ready to buy, do you think I'll have this option? I don't want to drop anything over the low 20's on a truck if I don't have to, and I'm really not into the non-PreRunner models.

I'd be surprised if they dropped the Prerunner model. In Texas, at least, the Prerunners seem to far outnumber the 5 lug models.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
It's not going anywhere, pretty sure Prerunners far outsell 5 lugs. 5 lugs are only really popular with fleets because they are cheap and don't cost much to keep maintained, get great mileage too compared to the 4WD platform Prerunner or 4WD trucks.

Agree. A prerunner is like wearing a wig and expecting a girl on the third date to still think you have a good head of hair while you're in the sack.

The Official (tentative) 2016 Dealer Model Reference says all configurations are new for MY 2016. The 4x4 Access Cab 4cylinder, alone, says 5MT, with an engine code of 2TR. The only way for this to be new for MY 2016 is for the engine code to not be designating a 2TR-FE engine. There you have it. The 4cylinder will have direct injection. I am calling the full engine code 2TR-FSE. That's my story.

The 2.7 is a nice engine if you don't need the v6 power. The high tech causes high dollar repairs down the road as compared to low tech.

There are definitely some changes to the 2TR from what I've seen in the various catalogs (diagrams ending that you wouldn't necessarily expect, like the cylinder head). I don't know exactly what changes it's getting, but there will be a few. If I had to venture a guess, based on updates to the 2TR in other countries, it's going to be getting Dual VVT-i.

It's still definitely a 2TR though. None of the chassis codes changed for the 4-cylinder, only for the V6 due to the 1GR -> 2GR change.

Not really once they get the technology mastered. It's pretty much apples to apples comparing the V6 and 4 cylinder Tacomas, they all last a long damn time given proper maintenance and care. There will be small issues the first year as to be expected with a new model layot, but I imagine by 2017 the 3.5 will be a really good engine. Toyota doesn't waste time making new things work well unlike other manufacturers do. The only real "bad" V6 engine they used in trucks was the 3.0, and that was if people didn't take care of the small issues it had. The 22RE had head gasket failures as well as timing chain failures people tend to forget so the needless bashing on the 3.0 gasket problem is pretty one sided. Those engines last a long time when maintained, just don't have much more power than the 22RE and get really bad gas mileage!

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
The 22re had head gasket problems if overheating was an issue. . That is not a problem. Also timing chains were a maintenance item and OEM chains never failed short of the maintenance intervals. . Cheap replacement chains installed by morons caused 90 percent of those issues.

The 3.0 had poor oiling, it was a problem in the camry with the DOHC version as well. It was not an issue if you used the proper 3k oil change and good oil and filters.

The 3.0 also burned valves on the drivers side with heavy use thanks to the piss poor crossover on the exhaust, it had bad head gasket issues. On top of the touchy issues it has pathetic power and was horrible on gas.

The 3.4 was based off the 3.0 but greatly improved!

The 3.0 is a bitch to work on too.

The 3.0 is toyotas worst engine, but its still much better than many other manufacturers engines! It was toyotas first and only non DOHC v6.

The 3.0 was a crap shoot. Some ran great and others were total dogs. I have owned a few and one ran great till the truck was wrecked over 200k but most get very iffy in the 175k range..

Arp studs, good oil/filter and good headers really make a difference on that engine!

I hope you are right on this, and perhaps we can expect around 20hp increase bringing it up around 180 hp. Or is that just wishful thinking on my part?
