I have an '05 DC TRD Sport with stock size Duratracs. I spent 3 days at my wife's family farm, hunting hogs, driving through some swampy cow pastures (lots of rain in the Texas Gulf Coast this last week). The only reason I even flicked the switch to 4wd was to minimize tearing up the topsoil. I was digging some ruts in 2wd, but never came close to getting stuck.

I used to drive a Jeep Scrambler with BFG KO's at the farm, and it didn't perform any better than my Tacoma.

In H4, correct... unless the (H4) TRAC/ TRAC OFF system is stronger on the Off Road, because of the hydraulic brake booster?

It is for the nasty, crawling, deep muck, steep grades (and pulling others without them) that the additional LOW RANGE traction systems of the OFF ROAD 4WD shows its stuff!

    stuff
Expect about a grand each for front and rear arb lockers, about $275 for the compressor to run both and fill tires. If you pull the third and the clamshell yourself, install should be about $200-300 each. Compressor install around $400. If you have a shop do everything removing and installing front rear and compressor, expect up to about $2000 for install.

There are some good threads on here about pulling thirds and clamshells. You can save big bucks if you can go this route! I just finished my arb install last weekend. Pulled the third and had shop do the diff work. ForeRunner helped (did) the compressor install for me. Kept the total cost more reasonable IMHO.
