99 tacoma 2.7 liter 3rz

I HAVE A 99 WITH A BAD ENGINE 2.7 3RZ FOUND A REALLY GOOD DEAL ON A 96 2.7
3RZ ENGINE ARE THEY PLUG AND PLAY?

 

Not plug and play, the heads are different i think- 96 takes a dizzy and the 99 has coil packs. I think the intakes are different as well- something about one having more ports than the other.

My '99 doesn't have coil packs.

 

if your head was in good shape you could just slap it on the other block and that "should" take care of all the differences.

 

Mine does. 2 coils that service 4 cylinders. Are you confusing coil packs with COPs (Coil-On-Plugs) ?

 

Yep. I never really considered that a coil pack setup because everything else I've had was either a distributor or COPs. Touché.

 

One is a individual 8 port head and the next (or previous) incarnation was a Siamesed setup.

I have the 8 port w dual coils.

Correct if wrong, but so long as you have the same ignition setup, it should drop in regardless of the head. Research that out and make sure before dropping coin.

 

Pretty sure 95.5-96 have a hole for the distributor in the cylinder head where 97+ heads do not. I havnt looked closley, may have a plug covering the hple om later engines.

 

Dual coil bracket covers or rides on top of what looks like the dizzy mount pad.
