I had title, $$ in hand...

I've been contemplating getting a double cab Tacoma for some time, and yesterday found an '04 double cab Prerunner TRD online that seemed to be just what I was looking for. I have an '02 extended cab 4x4 SR5 TRD auto that's in mint condition, with 35K on the odometer. The Prerunner had everything mine had except 4wd, and since I don't use it much off road, it seemed like something I could do, AND the Prerunner only had 30K...

Got to the dealer and someone had just bought it before I got there...isn't that how things go...

Anyway, I know I'd be better off selling mine first rather than trade, if I'm serious about getting a double cab. What do you think for a selling price for:

2002 Super White SR5 TRD 4x4, Extended Cab, Auto, 35K, Line-X bedliner, tow pkg, Bilstein 5100's all around, new Alcan rear springs, absolutely no rust anywhere.



I've been down this road one time before, and a lot of you told me I'd be crazy to sell this, and for the most part, I hate to part with it. I would like a little more room, though, and do like the double cab 1st gens if I can find one worth getting...

 

You only have 35K miles on your 02?

 

Anyways, if it does only have 35k on it, I would think you should be able to get at least around 10k for it. probably more like 10,500 to 11

I just went to Kelly Blue Book and punched in your truck and mileage. I got a retail value of 12,970. I wouldn't let it go for under 12000, it's a beautiful low mileage truck and is in high demand. Be sure what you replace it with is as nice or nicer. Good luck! (If I was in the market I'd take a look at it)

I have talked to you on here before, I have just about the exact truck as you. Mine is also a 2002, but it has a M/T and has 68,000 miles.

My opinion is you can do better than $11K. I think for a dry climate truck with only 35k miles you could be in the neighborhood of 13~14k. I see truck like ours with many more miles at dealer advertised for up to 16k. If it were me, I would start at least at 14k and see where it goes. I'm betting it would sell near that.

Determine what YOU want to sell it for, then price it higher than that. For example, if you want $12.5k for it, list it for $14k. A serious buyer won't lowball you and their offer (if they make one) will probably be around 13k or so. Accept the offer. He's happy because he got the price down and you're happy because you got more than what you wanted to. Everybody wins!

 

Yup. I know it seems low, but I got it from the original owner back in '05, and it only had 19400 on it then, three years old. I pretty much split time driving it with the Jeep I have also, so neither one has very many miles... I've used the Jeep more for offroading, so that's why I am considering a Prerunner instead.

If I can't find a 1st gen dc worth getting, I may have to look into a 2nd gen, but haven't been sold on those yet...though there are some nice ones on the forum.

What's the bottom dollar on a new SR5 Prerunner, auto? Nothing special, just want the SR5 package.

 

I wouldn't let it go for a penny under 12k.

06 Prerunner SR5 Auto. This was more than I was planning to spend on the 04, but I really like it, and it's in great shape and runs perfectly. Thanks for all who helped me with their input.

 

Congrats!! I am in the same boat you were in. I have a super clean PreRunner Xtra Cab, and I'm looking for a 1st gen D-Cab, but they are so hard to find in excellent condition. I personally dont like the 2nd gen Taco especially the plastic bed, but hey as long as you are happy with it thats all that matters. Enjoy your new Taco

The new truck looks nice. The 2nd gen trucks are a better value. 1st gen double cabs in nice shape have quite a premium on them.
Any plans for her. She would look really nice with some aftermarket wheels

I don't know, there seems to be quite a few responses here to just about every thread from plenty of 2nd gen owners...

I know what you mean about the 1st gen dc...I almost had one if I had been one hour quicker I also prefer the looks and size of the 1st gen...driving the new one, however, it's pretty easy to get used to the increased power and size in no time.

I already have a receiver hitch and trailer wiring on order for the '06, due in here Tuesday. That'll be the first improvement. The other items on the list are a slight lift, new wheels, and some 265/70/16 or 17 tires. I would like to get some aftermarket wheels, but I just can't find any that I like better than the Tacoma stock alloys! I'll be on the lookout for some takeoffs from an 05-10 Tacoma...
