Personally, I'd get Duratracs LONG before I'd even consider The ST Maxx. Everybody is different, but to me, the ST Maxx looks far too "street" for my tastes. Had Duratracs on my Jeep for 22k before I sold it and they impressed me a lot...performance and looks.

I'm on my second set of Duratracs Load C (at about 4500 miles). First set I pulled off at 69k, no kidding. They were pretty banged up at that point, but I was pretty surprised how much I got out of them. I put a combination of probably 50k street & numerous freeway trips, Florida sand & Georgia woods/mud & clay. I rotated them about every 5k. New ones seem to be doing just fine. Though, initial balancing was a challenge on two. For the $$$, life & dry/wet & off-road traction, I'm pretty pleased with them.

That's incredible! I have the same ones. I don't think I'll be anywhere near that mileage when mine are done though.

These Goodyear Duratecs sound awesome! I have gone through a ridiculous amount of tires over the past few years. My father swore by junkyard tires, and he instilled the principle in me. After blowing two tires in three months, I am a changed man. My Tacoma deserves a decent set of treads.

884 with 5100 Billy's, overload leaf removed and aal added= stock uca's =ok=2 inch lift. I want to go higher though.
With all the balancing issues I have read in this forum, I have not read of anyone using "equal" instead of weights. Maybe I am wrong and some one has...? Any try equal and with this tire and what was your experience?

I have over 55K on LT265/75R16 and still going. I'm going to have to change them just because of the milage factor. Been through everything- Ice, deep snow, rain, floods, hard sand, soft sand, dirt trails, wet rocks, dry rocks, mud, and aggressive street/highway driving. This tire has exceeded my expectations, definitely a good "all around" tire. Like any tire, as milage and age increase, they will show wear and performance will diminish. Good things never come cheap. From what iv'e read/heard, most tires in this price range/class get good feedback.

After a cold, snowy second half of the winter, I am very pleased with the Duratracs. Especially good off-road in up to 2' of snow, where it was sometimes hard to break a trail without shifting to low range. In mud, it was also a happy story: slowing down to about 900 rpm in 2nd or 3rd low would keep them from losing forward bite or sliding sideways.

Would tend to disagree about the design of this tire. TR calls it "on/off road commercial traction", and it has the snowflake, so it's more than just a/t. With 265/75 16 E's, I ran 36 psi and bolted on a camper shell for added rear traction. Never got stuck - not even close. The Tacoma took me places that a Yamaha Grizzly 660 wouldn't go. At $425 for the set of 4 with wheels included, it's all good. The worst tire still has 13/16.

Now that Spring is here, it's a tough choice whether to go back to my oem 31/10.5 15's in a non-aggressive tread. A trip to the beach is coming up, and the concern is which tire will give better traction in the sand at Hatteras and Ocracoke. If possible, not airing down is preferred. Any feedback here?

I'm really wanting to get a set on my 04, can anyone tell me how they behave on the road? Do they wear nice? My Tacoma is my DD so it sees a lot of highway, but also it snows here in the winter and I do a lot of gravel road driving so I want a tough tire that can do it all. I love the looks of these and always have liked Goodyear stuff. I'd like to know how well they stay balanced? Right now I have a pretty worn set of BFG A/T KO's and they don't balance well at all, could just be that they are worn out but I am not sure. They were on it when I got it.

Has anyone had problems with Duratracs rubbing when turning or anything like that? I can't get them in the exact size I have on there now but the tire guys say they can get them pretty close. 8 or 10 plys are my only option so are these heavy beasts going to weigh it down any more than it is now? Not sure the ply rating on my current tires.

I bought a used set of Duratracks for my 7.3 Powerstroke last summer and love them on that, but they are already halfway through their life so I don't know much about the tires. Also, are they quiet on the road? I've heard they aren't noisy like normal mud tires are. Again, I can't comment there either, the noise of my diesel engine snuffs out any tire noise that might be there, haha!

Dude, where'd you find your set for $425? My tire shop quoted me $880 for the set I want! $425 is practically free for a set of tires like this, lol.

If you know the load range, you can determine the plys by understanding a simple chart.

    LR C = 6 ply
    LR D = 8 ply
    LR E = 10 ply

    Etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tire_code#Load_range

In my post that you quoted, I stated Load Range "C", so 6 ply.

I have liked my Duratracs over the years, but mine are worn now, and I can't wait to get rid of them. I'll be going to 255/85/R16 tire size in a few months... Duratracs don't' come in that size so I'll be trying something new.

I have about 40k miles on my duratracs. Personally, I wouldn't recommend them as a daily driver tire. I really liked mine when I first got them, but as time went they became a pain. Balancing, wet traction, noisy and sloppy on the highway.

I drive on the highway every day to get to work, and at this point they aren't very confident at high speed (65+). I transfered these tires over to my new Tacoma when I got it, as they only had around 20k miles at the time. My truck now has about 24k miles, and these tires make it feel like an old worn out truck. I'm really very anxious to get a different brand tire all together. I'm curious about the cooper st maxx.

I will say, tread wear has been impressive, snow traction is great, and slight offloading is pretty good.

I had some really bad wet traction issues for a while. As in no traction what so ever when the roads were wet. However, that seems to have gone away. I don't know if it had something to do with a layer of rubber that is now worn off, or what. No idea.

I would have been quite happy with these tires as a winter tire. Theyre not an all around daily driver and highway use tire from my experience.

I got mine a few days now, they ride rougher (more noticeable) than the Rugged Trails of course. I think the roughest ride is around 60mph on smooth pavement on the highway. I don't think it's a balancing issue because it don't get much steering wheel vibes it's just the fact that they are more aggressive I guess and I can feel every little detail in the road.

What pressure are you guys running them on (265/75/16 C) mine are at ~32psi right now

I cranked mine up to about 40 all around. They have very squishy sidewalls. Truck will handle a lot better, better MPG but of course a little rougher ride. Glad to see you lost those little street tires.

will try the 40psi tonight, I don't mind a little rougher as long as it's just rougher going over bumps and not rolling down a smooth highway lol...I sold my used "street" tires for $200 yesterday to make room in the garage
