I have an the first gen 1995 Tacoma 4x4. I just bought some used tires from a guy who had lifted his 2013 TRD 4x4 and he threw in his Bilstein shocks and struts for free. I'm pretty pumped about it actually because I really needed some new shocks.

My question is will these bolt onto my truck? I've looked around and the aftermarket shops show that they have shocks/struts that'll work from 1995-2013 but I'm not sure those'll spec the same as these Bilsteins.

These have less than 2k miles on them, look to be in great shape from what I can tell. The guy was just cleaning out his garage.

No. 1st and 2nd gen suspension components are not interchangeable.

Look up the part number and see if they will.

I tried that and came up with mixed results. Several of the aftermarket places showed interchangeable suspension components (the shocks and struts - not sure about the spring) but some listed them separately.

Which part listing is definitive? What resources do y'all use to answer a question like this?

    Thanks guys

I've never seen anything advertised as cross-compatible between gens.

The only thing that may be interchangeable is the front coils. Look at the front stuts, they are physically longer as the 2nd gen ones have the shaft to clear the CV. On the rear shocks, the top mount is a stud, not an eye.

Likely I just didn't dig deep enough through the item selection to get to the compatibility.

Thanks for your help Squeaky P., I'll just sell these and buy the correct ones.

Hey guys. I went on ahead and bought some 4600 heavy duty shocks and struts. I was looking at some OME springs and inspriation hit me. I have a set of springs sitting on my garage on those 2013 struts! So, new question along the same line as the old:

Can I take the springs from the 2013 struts and put them on the struts for the older models?

    Thanks

same answer they don't cross over.

mainly its because the suspension travel is different so they are different lengths

I was afraid of that. So, should I drop the money putting new springs on these new struts. The ones on there have 185k miles on them. If I should put on new springs, y'all have any recs on what to get and where?

    Thanks
