Something came in the mail today

 

So I changed oil and filter this past weekend. I have always used Wix filters and M1 synthetic oil. The place I get the filters was closed so I got a K&N oil filter that said it was good for 10K miles. I have been driving about 7-8k since its synthetic oil instead of conventional but have heard it can go 10k. First question is was it a terrible decision to go K&N for an oil filter and Second, do you think a filter can last 10k in between swapping?

A lot of people including myself run the Toyota filters they are the top rated filter in the recent tests for our trucks. Me personally have not had much luck with anything k&n. i personally wouldn't run it past. 5k. Why? Just because. No real reason whatsoever ever just personal preference.

 

Looks like shit. Bring them to Knoxville and I'll respectfully dispose of them so you never have to see them again on your truck

Yeah I wouldn't run it past 5k. I use Amsoil 25k oil and it recommends changing the filter every 5k. I change my filter every couple thousand because of the offroading I do. And I also use Toyota filters

 

This. Even synthetic oil breaks down, it just has a higher resistance to breaking down than conventional. Fuel vapors and blow by are what breaks down oils- during warm up and because of PCV. I used to run my oil change intervals at 10k, but since i've learned what I know from working on cars, I run changes at 5k and use toyota OEM filters.

I use Mobil 1 and a Mobil 1 filter and change every 5k and it still comes out with a golden tint, not very dark.

I'm gonna have to change the oil on this truck myself for the first time in 3500 miles. The struggle haha no more freebies

 

Yeah I used that too until I went baller and switched to Amsoil. I have 210k on my other yota with Mobil One and it runs great

 

Man, I'll do you a huge favor and come get them from you to dispose of and I'll even let you have my stock 16's with km2's on them so that you've got some decent tires to roll on.
