SHOP WONT MOUNT TIRES??

    Tire shop won't mount a 285/75/16 tire on my 16x7.5 fj TRD rims!! Thy said it sucks the tire in too much and the wheel needs to be 8" wide. I'm confused. Anyone run this setup? I really don't want to have to get new rims?

    Find a new shop or pull up the specs on the tire to see if the manufacturer says it's OK on a 7.5" wheel.

    They are cooper discovery stt and the minimum width is 7.5. Is it risky to run them on the minimum approved rim width?

    No, not risky. It's risky to run them below the minimum approved width, but if the manufacturer says it's OK, show that to your shop. If they still refuse, take your business elsewhere and don't give it another thought. Some shops just have know-it-alls and they don't like to admit or be proven wrong.

    Keep in mind that installing tires that someone bought elsewhere is pretty much a losing game for a tire shop.

    They hardly make any money on it if everything goes well. But if there's a problem, such as a tire that won't balance right, then it turns into a big time sink throwing all their paying jobs behind schedule.

    So they were probably just looking for an easy way to either blow you off or upsell you to something (like new rims) that they can sell.

    That makes sense! Well I have a 3" lift so those TRD rims don't have much backspacing, I'll need spacers wouldn't you say?

    yes, if you want 285s to mount on factory rims without hitting the UCAs, youll probably need spidertrax wheel spacers.
