Why would the truck suck? If I increased the injector size in proportion to the increased fuel flow E85 requires, seems like the ECU wouldn't know anything had changed, and should run just fine.

Same reason it will suck if you put race gas in without tuning it properly except worse. Even with a proper tune, the e85 will still give less power on these trucks until you start boosting. It just wont burn as efficiently :notsure:

I don't know man, I think I'm going to have to disagree with you. If I put high octane fuel or race gas in the tank, I don't think it's going to run like crap, I think it's going to run just fine, i'll just be running a high dollar fuel but not take advantage of its characteristics.

Ethanol has something like two thirds the energy content of gasoline, however you're injecting somewhere around 30% more due to ethanol's richer stoichiometric requirement, so it nets out to be about the same energy. I bet if I swapped in these larger injectors, and ran E85 while still NA, I bet it would still run just fine, I just wouldn't see any benefit to the higher octane.

Higher the octane, less it will burn (especially at stock compression). To complicate this, your internal temps will be too and won't facilitate a good combustion :notsure:

If you advanced your timing, you can make up for some of this but I wouldn't just put it in the tank without tuning appropriately. And I would wait for the turbo before running. Gas is generally cheaper and better on a N/A engine.

^this. It's like 10-20% cheaper and your truck will lose 30% of its gas mileage. Your meth injection is going to do everything for your truck that an e85 conversion would do... but you have the option of not using it until you boost :notsure:

Get much better power if you get an e85 tune when boosting. Just N/A or not boosted is not so good.

I wouldn't. Sounds like a pain in the a. Listen to these guys. They know what time it is. Stick to what's been done already, or be your own guinea pig if you can afford it.

Agree. Wouldn't be beneficial if NA.

There's really nothing to afford. I've already got the 315cc injectors. All that's left is swapping them in and getting some E85.

Think about it. How do you think people "tune" for E85? Most of the time people plug in their HPTuners or some program, and change the ECU's parameters directly, increasing the fueling tables so that the injectors dump more fuel in that E85 requires. Unfortunately we don't have an easy tuning option like that thanks to the locked Toyota ECU. Instead we have to rely on an array of different piggybacks that are often times rudimentary or cumbersome to use. So instead of reflashing the ECU to dump more fuel, it stands to reason that if you scale your injector size to match the increased fueling E85 requires, then you've accomplished the same thing.

remember, you still need to swap out your fuel lines. I think you also need special gaskets for your injectors. Also make sure your pump is able to be used with E85.

Research what is needed, cars don't say "flex fuel" for nothing, there are physical differences.

Been there, done that (as far as the research goes). Most modern cars are already ethanol resistant. You can find guys over at CustomTacos who are running E85 on stock fuel lines for a while now with no ill effects.

It seems like the 15% real petroleum gas would provide most of the lubricating properties that seals and o-rings need to resist drying out. I'm sure that issue is way overly hyped, but still realistic on some level.

I installed a bull/push bar on my 96 yesterday from a 2006 Tacoma. If anyone is interested on the bracket specs to make a bull bar from a 2006 Tacoma fit your 95.5-96 (not 100% sure about 97s, but it definitely won't fit 98+) Tacoma, you will need four 1/4" thick plates that are at least 1.5" wide. Two of the plates (the rear ones) must have a hole-to-hole space of 123mm and the other two (the ones closest to the front of the truck) will have a hole-to-hole space of 145mm.

The upper brackets will go in between the bumper and frame mounting surfaces (it will be tight) and the bull bar will mount to the inside of the brackets. This pic is from the passenger side looking inward.

For sure! I want to weld something around mine. Any chance I can pick up that oil pan soon?

Right on man. I'll grab that oil pan and get the bung welded. As much of a pia it is, I'll know that it will hold up well. You think I can drop the diff myself? I've changed out clutches and done diff work on my old Cherokee.

I'd even call it easier than changing a clutch. Drop the dif and pull one axle out. Shouldn't take more than a half hour if you have a big jack and all the right sockets and extensions

Someone told me already but I forgot, what sealer do I get to seal it back up with (oil pan)? And then I put 75w 90 gear oil back in. How many would I need to do both diffs and the transfer case and transmission?

    I think 6+ quarts, I'm going to just get a 12 pack.
