Dumb question about snap on Tonneau

I emailed Trick Truck Toys for info on their snap on Tonneau cover, and he sent me the installation instructions. But, I am confused. This is a no drill installation. I think you use clamps on part of it, and I think you have to glue rails along the top of your bed sides??? He said that the clamps are installed under the deck rails, but the instructions say not to use one of these with an over rail bed liner.


So, I have a 2009 base 2wd access cab with the plastic bed. Do I have an over the rail liner?? Can someone explain what an over the rail bed liner is and is that the standard bed that I have or is it under??

 

Do yourself a favor and get an undercover, or a extang, or an access. Forget the snap on stuff...

 

I thought about that, but I need to be able to remove it for tall loads. Do those undercovers come off easily so that you can have an open bed when you need it?

 

Did you tell him you have a tacoma with the bed rails? Most other tonneaus have different mounting instructions for us.

We do not have an over the rail bed liner. There is no liner. The bed is the black composite that you see.

Get an Access tonneau cover. Go with Luke from truck alterations and tell him you are a member here - he gives us better rates on the items.

I have the LE cover and it's great. Rolls up out of the way when you need to haul something and rolls right back out when done.

 

Well, that would be perfect, except I can't afford it, at least not now!

I might just wait until I can.

Call them up...ask for LUKE...1 month ago, I called about 2 covers...Access Roll Up and Extang Trifecta. $340 for the Access.....$350 for the Extang...SHIPPED to Anywhere in the US.

I decided on the Extang. Tri fold. I can take it completely off in 30 seconds. Not exaggerating AT ALL. And a reinstall in less than 2 minutes.

Plus, if you need to haul something, It folds up twice and latches near the cab.

With the access covers, they use velcro. I didnt like that fact. I haul dirt and gravel a lot and was afraid it would get in the velcro and not stick anymore. But they have a lifetime warranty on it I think.

My advice, either one is good. Either one is easy to take off BY YOUR SELF. The hard covers are nice, secure, and all that good stuff, but a pain in the ass to take off.

 

Search for tonneau covers on this forum. There are many options available to you.

I had 'snapped' bed covers for 2 of my other trucks and they were OK for what they were....that is, until I got my current top. I'll never go back to snaps again.

I have an Advantage Torza Top. It's a tri-fold and the entire top folds up and can be removed.

Snapped tops are a pain in the ass especially in the winter when the vinyl gets cold & shrinks. You can never unsnap the top in the winter and attempt to get it snapped back on.

I got mine locally at a Truck Accessories place. If I remember ...it was close to $250 alone.

It's big ....so I can imagine shipping would suck!

Do you have any truck cap/accessory places nearbye? Or within a close driving distance? Shop around.... get price quotes, etc.
