i just got my car back from the dealership for its usual 5,000 mile check up at 43,000+ miles
change oil, rotate tires, top off fluids, inspect chassis all that good stuff

in this service i had my drums cleaned and re-aligned cause they had to be
new battery installed since mine was almost completely dead (main reason i made the appt for today)
new cabin and AC filter installed

i get my car back and the first thing i notice, is an awkward thumping in back, like my bass is firing at volume 1 or 2 and its audible and you can feel it and it is even there during the normal song, but its on and off, sometimes it will do it, other times it wont, sometime fast, sometimes slow, the song has some affect on it but its kind of always there.

oh and somehow my alignment is off now, i don't know if they fucked up rotating the tires and hit something, but at speeds up to 40+, my steering wheel oscillates back and fourth and it pulls left now WTF, i dont need this extra bullshit to deal with right now, especially since toyota is going to claim they didn't do shit to the sound system

all i know, it was fine before they touched it...don't know what could have gone wrong??

and yes i already contacted the dealership and told them both complaints and i'm bringing in my alignment spec sheet from when i had it done in sept.

blue led headlights, 285/75/16 grabber AT2's, custom pedals, custom shifter, flowmaster 40 series muffler, bedlinered fender flares, 2.5" lift kit via shackles and spacers, custom exhaust out the back, chrome exhaust tip, and Herculined bed, Weathertech floormats, Cabelas Trail Gear Camo Seat Covers ... Nice thing was I got the truck for $4000
my buddy went to get his brand new GMC silverado aligned after upsizing to bigger tires and accidently hitting a curb a little quick. Befoer he sent it to the shop it had 8,000 miles on it, when he it back, it read 40,000. During the alignment the alignment guy must have messed with some sensor, or wire, and it can't get reset. The owner of the truck was pissed because the value of his truck dropped like crazy because the odometer was screwed with. The dealership said that the owner of the truck must have driven the truck 40,000 miles on his way home or something crazy like that. Dealerships generally have a way of screwing things up

thumping is likely coincidental, search for subwoofer wiring on here and you'll see the problems some have had

I have an 09' with the jbl system and also have some issues with my sub. I only notice it when playing Cd's even with the bass level set to 0 and when the volume is turned down it gets worse. Sounds like a scratching sound? Is this what you are experiencing? Anyone else have this issue? Doesn't do it when using the radio or Ipod????

well there was absolutely no problem whatsoever with it and i get it back like that....something tells me a wire isn't just going to fuck up like that, the pitch of it is even different

no its a distinct thump from my bass and its off my ipod, i just got a kenwood installed a week ago and had everything wired and perfect...when the volume is on 1, the base sounds like the volume is on 15, but this abnormal bass hit doesn't necessarily get louder when i turn up the music..its just there in the song

Ok well you have to ask yourself:

Why would they be touching anything having to do with your wiring?
Don't you think it's possible your Kenwood blew your sub and now it sounds bad all the time?

I take it you got a new HU and kept the stock sub?

Same issue. It pisses me off all day. My truck has 1000 miles on it and I already want to change the system.

usually alignments aren't covered by warranty, whether it's factory warranty or dealership labor warranty. your alignment could be in spec during alignment but one pothole and it's out. your alignment is even out of spec as soon as you drive it. i would take it back to the dealer to check the tires and maybe rotate them back. it's possible a bad tire is causing this symptom. i've seen it a lot. rotate the tires for a customer and now we have a pulling, drifting or vibration issue that wasn't there. it could also be a bent wheel.

and i agree with you about the radio. i see porters and some techs all the time change the radio to their preference and it pisses me off. but you can't prove but you know they do it.

okay, to address the issues above, i have an aftermarket sub, 12" rockford fosgate and 500w amp rockford fosgate. 1 week ago had the kenwood installed, had them wire it past the factory amp so i have subwoofer control, my HU is now fully functional and i can customize every audio aspect of my car, its been fine for a week, imsikotic even saw me at the place last week when he drove by. I haven't blown my speakers or sub, i've had that set up for 1.5 years, i checked the sub and amp, everything is perfectly fine, checked the settings in my kenwood, nothing is touched, why would they be fucking with the wiring, i have no idea? all i know is its different now

as for the rim and tires, i don't even have 1000 miles on them, they are brand spanking new and i know none of them are bent cause i haven't touched dirt since i've had them yet and i haven't hit anything....

i'm not talking about oo i hit a pothole now its off a little bit, this is noticeable, i feel like i'm fighting the steering wheel so i don't know why a simple rotation of the tire would cause this, all of them have been balanced properly or else i would have noticed a problem before but i've driven about 400 miles and everything was fine...another reason i think the alignment is off now is because, long story, have cv axel grease in my left wheel well, now there is a rubbing spot where the grease is missing that wasn't missing before and what i mean by this is you can see where the tire is rubbing but its a small area...and it doesnt feel like real rubbing...and something that small wouldn't cause it to pull that much...i have no idea this is lame

okay, the bass is definitely miss firing, when i turn up the song, the bass kind of overrides it until you get to a part in the song where there is no base and you hear thump..thump..thump, its the same pitch and volume always, regardless of how high/low the music is and its constant...then all of a sudden it'll stop and everything will be normal...then all of a sudden it'll come back on again irradically...this is me sitting there watching it when its at low volume, the bass hit is clearly higher than it should be at volume 1/2/3/4/5 until about 10 but then i have this added awkward bass hit in the song that doesn't sound like it should be there and no its not the song cause it is at random points in the song...this is so frustrating..

no i don't even really know what rca's are....i mean the whole system:HU, Amp, Sub everything is internal to the car, i don't have wires showing really so i don't know how i would check them without taking things apart...

yeah okay thats what i thought but i wasn't sure, yeah there is no way i'm gonna be able to look at those, those plug into the back of the HU right? if so, my HU is an in dash one, so i would have to take it back to where i got it installed and have them take things apart and look at it

but see whats weird is that i haven't even touched dirt since i've had it installed...haven't hit any bumps, didn't hit any bumps on the way to the dealership and it was listening to it at a nice volume, not too loud or soft and everything was good and then i get it back and its like this....how could things get screwed up when its just been sitting there

no i know exactly what button you're talking about and thats exactly how i had it before, "off" i checked the HU settings, after going back out there and playing with them the bass seems to be back to normal pitch wise but the awkward completely random bass hit is still there, what doesnt make sense is how the bass hit doesn't change volume regardless of how hi/low i make the music, its the same volume/pitch (the awkward bass hit that is)
