Admittedly it isn't common to see frame rust in your part of California, because they don't put down road salt. Either your truck frequented beaches or it came from out of state. Did you run a Carfax on the truck before purchase? It should have the truck's registration history.

There is a frame rust campaign happening in northern states. See details here http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2n...ce-campaign-corrosive-resistant-compound.html

Take your truck back to the dealer and ask for a frame inspection. If they refuse to do it, get it done at another dealer. If the frame fails inspection (perforation larger than 10mm), get the results in writing, and go back to the selling dealer and negotiate from there - they sold you an unroadworthy vehicle.

this is why you ALWAYS look underneath a vehicle before you buy it... new or used.

Take it back and void the agreement.. you dont want to start out this way.

Nah. It's not about personal responsibility. The OP made a mistake, one that could have been avoided had he looked under the truck. Its easy to say he should have looked under the truck, but he didn't. Shit happens. Your attitude is going to catch up to you one day. The know it alls are always the first ones to throw stones.

At the end of the day , the dealer/salesman that sold him that POS truck is a dickhead and the OP got hosed.

Im sure the dealer was aware of the rust when they bought that car off the last person, that's not something they'd miss. They probably bought it for next to nothing because of the rust. The OP made a mistake, but the dealer here sounds like a scummy pos (even among dealers).

The OP could probably ruin this dealers reputation, that is if the dealer had any amount of decency before this...

It is about personal responsibility. It's your money so you should know what you're spending it on.

Don't know about cars? Bring a buddy.
Don't have a buddy? Pay a mechanic an hour's labor to go through the truck.

Assume the dealer is going to screw you and look the thing over with a fine tooth comb.

I think that this tacoma world "defensive nature" of xYZ occurred and I was powerless to stop it. It's the OP's fault, the dealers fault, toyotas fault.

The OP screwed up. We all do it. I do it all the time!

Look at the threads on here recently. Everything from peeling paint, rusted frames, bad clutches, are all someone else's fault. What are the odds.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
That's bullshit dude, I wouldn't even drive that thing like that. Looks like the frame could bust in half at any moment. Never seen rust that bad on a second gen before. Goddammit Toyota, you make one of the best trucks on the market with perhaps the worlds worst frame materials, get your shit together already!

Let's just focus on the OP, and not have an e-fight.

    Thread cleaned up.

    Not yet.
Sorry to bring an old post back up. So OP here. I was able to return the truck for my full refund. I'm pretty sure the dealership knew about the rust because they took it back no questions asked. Also I got me a used 2013 Regular Cab 4x4 with like 28k miles on it, and no rust as well! Sorry guys for not responding back. I moved and lost track of this post!

    Cheers!
