tweeter and crossover help

ok so ive been reading...i know about the 4 wires and stuff...i tried posting on the 4runner forum since its going in my 2014 4runner but i know the guys here are a lot more helpful and wont throw out the did u search speech.

that being said i got a set of helix p236p for my front stage powered by a rockford t400x4ad. speakers are in using the stock wiring, amp will go in next week when accessory parts come in. i want to have a plan ahead of time so i can just jam it out rather than sit and search for an answer that is still a bit confusing lol. ive done many audio installs but never using factory wiring, always redid all the wiring.

so back to the tweeters. amp is going to the input on the crossover, woofer to woofer, but the tweeter is where i get confused. ppl saying if i disconnect the tweeter the woofer wont play? i didnt notice this today when i was installing the tweeter but i dont wanna run into that problem so ill ask here first.

so once i chop off the connector i have 4 wires. what do i do from here? splice them pos n neg then insulate? then wire the tweeter to the crossover? or am i missing something or just over thinking

The stock wiring is rather crap imo,

Use the stock wiring to pull the new wire through the door grommet

 

i honestly think, im thinking too much lol. signal from the deck to the amp, amp to crossover, then i just run new wires for the tweeter and woofer. so do i need to do anything to the stock wires or no? i read about if i unplug the tweeter the woofer wont work? idk i may just trial and error and see what happens.

 

If your running new wires, you can simply leave them there if using after market wires.

 

in response to your question about whether the woofer will stop playing if the tweeter is disconnected, it really depends on the crossover design.

if it's a series crossover where your tweeter and woofer are daisy-chained into one big current loop, then yes, disconnecting the tweeter will cause the woofer to stop playing.

but, if it's a parallel crossover where the tweeter and woofer crossover circuits are both connected back to the same input source, then disconnecting the tweeter will not cause the woofer to stop playing. you may affect the impedance and electrical characteristics of the woofer crossover circuit, but it will still play some music.

i'm curious to know why you're so concerned about this. do you plan to run the system without the tweeter connected to the crossover? as long as you follow the manufacturer's wiring diagram, then you should be good to go.

 

no i was referring to the stock wiring. remove the stock tweeter and im not going to reuse the stock harness. i was wondering if i didnt have anything hooked up in the stock locations nothing would work

Like manethon said. Ditch the stock wires. They are worthless.

 

if you're getting sound without the stock tweeter wire connected, then you should be good to go. it's not going to randomly stop working...unless you get short somewhere. just tape it good. i wouldn't be surprised if the stock stereo just uses a bass blocker circuit on the tweeter. it's nothing fancy.
