OK, the 3.5 should be a good engine

They released an anticipated code sheet that showed the 7GR as being thr engine code for the Tacoma. The sheet isn't finalised yet though.

In looking at that chart, it sure appears that EVERYTHING is 6AT, except 4x4 access cab 4 cylinder. That's right. If you want a stick, this is your only choice. Yes, the engine codes are 2TR and 7GR, but it doesn't say 2TR-FE. We know it's 7GR-FSE. I am wondering if it is going to be 2TR-FSE, D4S, to boost performance and MPG in the 4 cylinder. Other than that, Toyota, are you trying to tell me that we cannot get a 3.5 with a stick? WTF. What happened to 6MT ? You are playing with my emotions. Or else the chart is wacked.

Out of curiosity, where did you hear about he minimum 250,000? I thought most automakers chose 150,000 as a minimum lifespan.

It's only a preliminary release. Toyota promised a MT available in most trims at the auto show. Don't panic.

That being said I got off the manual train a long time ago. I enjoy stick, but honestly now automatics are getting better mpg and often have a higher resale.

Doubt a manual will be available with the DCLB. Wasn't available for the gen 2 (for reasons no one has been able to confirm to me yet). Since this is not a clean sheet redesign, I imagine this won't change.

Honestly it wouldn't be hard to offer a manual in the double cab long box, clean sheet design or not. All it takes is for Toyota to decide to build it. Why punish people for choosing a manual transmission.

I am sure it would be easy to do, but Toyota has not done it for the last 10 years. My theory is the most DCLB buyers are family types, where manuals are less desirable. Personally, I would love a DCLB with a manual but I am not gonna get my hopes up. Also no TRD Off Road package for the DCLB which kind of stinks. My ideal Tacoma configuration isn't even available.

You see lots of videos of double cabs offroad. not just used for family stuff. I know a few put who tolerate the automatic because they want the longbox. They would have bought the manual in a heartbeat if they could have gotten a longbox. We can only hope that Toyota gets it right this time.
I think if enough people send Toyota emails about this they just might build it. I have already sent my email.

I live in Canada so I sent it to Toyota Canada. go to www.toyota.com and scroll down and look for contact and link up to email toyota. Hopefully if they see enough demand they will build it for us. Would be awesome to have a double cab longbox, manual and a sunroof.

Wow, just when I had hope for Toyota. I for one will be very disappointed if the Gen 3 Tacoma isn't offered in a DC 4x4 V6 MT. It's unfortunate but this news might have just confirmed that I made the right decision to hedge and buy a '15 DC 4x4 V6 MT while I still could. Without a viable Tacoma manual option, I just hope the Wrangler Unlimited is still offered in a manual in 8-10 years from now.

Are you guys looking at the same chart here? Link from 7GR post: https://www.toyotaasg.com/data/publications/900/MY 2016 Model Reference 04-01-15 Field Copy.pdf

It shows 6MT with 7GR for the following models:
    - 4x4 Double Cab TRD Sport V6
    - 4x4 Double Cab TRD Off Road V6
    - 4x4 Access Cab TRD Sport V6
    - 4x4 Double Cab SR V6

    (I am surprised the 4x4 AC Off Road V6 doesn't have a 6MT option.)

There it is. Much better. I either saw a different chart or my woodeye is knotty. Thank you for the info. Sorry about any confusion created.

Also it says "new for model year 2016" for any and all variants. Again I say, they just might have tweaked the 4 cylinder engine for CAFE or whatever.

BTW jonny, I once chased my older brothers and their friends through our avocado orchard with a pitchfork. True story.

Same here, never moved to newer model because my 07 is "simplistic" and I did not want to spend money on gizmos that I have no use in my truck.
If not for the stupid frame rust issue those 07 will outlast any other truck that came after them.

More electronics means using more fuel to power them up, more things to troubleshoot, and more things to fix and replace. Considering Toyota charges some crazy money for any electronic part, failure something simple may render your truck salvage.
