Recently picked up my new Tacoma, Ill have a picture below but it is a 2015 TSS. I'm wanting to install new in-door speakers as well as a sub box.

I'm fairly new to this and I'm unsure of what is the best thing to do. I'm wanting to put the sub box behind the back seats. Any help is appreciated!

You're not going to get any noticeable sound performance upgrade running aftermarket speakers on the stock head unit. I replaced my rear door speakers and noticed 0 change. Replace the factory head unit (crutchfield will be your friend for this) and then change out the speakers. What is your budget?

I'm hoping that it wont cost over 1,500 but I'm willing to pay a bit more for something that really helps, and if I replace the head unit doesn't that take away certain features?

I have right at $1,000 in my system. I have a pioneer 7" touch screen HU with 2 kicker cvr 10's in a box behind my back seat wired to two ohms and a 1000watt amp. I have factory door speakers but with the Head unit, they sound really good.

That sounds like something I would want to do, can you give me the actual name or model of the pioneer-touchscreen you have and by using the pioneer screen are you still able to use the stock features?

Heres a link to Crutchfield.com. Like Kerleyfries, I'm partial to Pioneer head units. Pioneer makes models that are basic touch screens with Bluetooth, all the way up to units that play movies and have GPS. Pick which features you like. If you have steering wheel controls you'll need to pick up adapters (that crutchfield sells). They come with instructions and its not hard. I installed the steering wheel controls, wired up my new headunit and had everything finished in an afternoon. They also do over the phone or online support if you get stuck for free.

    http://www.crutchfield.com/g_300/Al...pair=FFSize|Double-DIN&nvpair=FFBrand|Pioneer
(it says 2014 model year selected, crutchfield hasn't updated their website yet to include the 2015 Tacoma's.)

I promise I don't work for crutchfield, but they should pay me after that review haha.

    This is my conundrum....

An aftermarket head unit with nav and the ability to play DVD's would be great, but I really like the factory bluetooth.

If you do add an aftermarket head unit, don't even bother using the amp built into it.

Use the pre-amp outputs and get separate amps. One sub amp, and one to drive the door speakers should be sufficient.

I have the pioneer avh-x3500s. It's an older model, 2 or 3 years old. I believe that they replaced it with the avh-x3700s though. And I don't have any stock features such as bluetooth or anything. The truck is an 06 sr5.

i noticed a change in quality when upgrading my speakers/ tweets and adding the sub box keeping the stock head unit. I have a box behind the rear seats. Its the JL Stealthbox and fits right into that wasted space. I went with arc audio speakers and amps. Here's a picture so you can see how its setup.

I'd recommend going with a different setup. I opted to take the plastic liners out of the truck and go with a sub box with way more air space in it and mounted my amp under the driver's seat. I know they make boxes for back there that will have more air space than that box but still have a mounting spot on them for the amp.

    Just my opinion.

I recently replaced my OEM radio with a recommendation from Crutchfield and hate it. Nothing against Crutchfield, but the unit they recommended is crap. I would recommend researching exactly what you want and what will work. In my case I had to purchase additional 'converters' to get the steering wheel controls to work as well as an aftermarket XM/Sirius antenna and decorder. XM works, but the steering wheel radio controls have never worked. Crutchfield shrugged their shoulders, asked me to try different things. Nothing.

Nonetheless, do your homework well. Even down to the fit and finish if that's important to you.

The stock speakers are shit. Total crap really. There's nothing inherently wrong with the stock head unit. They are built by Harmon. As in Harmon Kardon, JBL, Mark Levinson, etc. And amp and speakers will go a long way, throw in a sub if you like. If you just replace the head unit, you will eventually go down this road anyway because you will find that the stock speakers are shit. Might as well start where you get the biggest bang for your buck. And, you keep the stock functionality.

My factory speakers are awesome. I have factory speakers, and a pioneer headunit and I've turned the radio up to where I couldn't hear myself scream and they had no distortion. They're super crisp and clear for factory speakers, and I honestly didn't believe they were factory until I pulled the doors and looked at them. I've had cars with aftermarket speakers and these sound better than those did. I can honestly say that I haven't had the slightest inclination to replace the factory ones.
Edit: noticed you have a 14 so not sure if they've changed suppliers of the speakers since 06 but I know I don't even have factory upgraded speakers.

Does anyone know what the RMS rating is on the 2015 speakers?

So I've been testing out my stock in-door speakers and they actually sound really good. So I don't plan on buying any in-door speakers. I've been looking at a few different head units and I've got an idea of what I would get but when it comes to the subs I'm kind of lost. Any suggestions? Size?

I also find my stock speakers to be pretty good. Could you maybe help me understand how much a new head unit really helps?
