Exactly why I suggested just getting an AR15. I'm trying to remember the cost of the last AR15 budget rifle I built using deals from PSA over the span of a couple of months & I think it was right around $500 w/o optic but fully functional & milspec parts. Might not win any internet commando Brownie points but if that's your concern you're getting into it for the wrong reasons. It'll eat whatever ammo you feed it & is capable of tighter groups than you so what more do you need? Invest your money in ammo & training (read: invest in yourself to become a more efficient weapon regardless of what system is in your hands) and you'll be amazed at how much better your rifle becomes.

I built an ar last year for about 450, 2 of them actually. Gave one to my brother as a Christmas gift. I also bought a 1522. even at $.0x/round it's the cheapest to shoot. I suggest having both...

Eric I was just looking at that on google images. But I was unsure If that was for just a specific winch. I guess a rule of thumb would be 8"x 24" to play it safe.

Edit: thanks for the link. I'll copy that one.

I'm going to agree w/ everybody and recommend just getting an AR15 due to the high cost of .22.

Also, I managed to blow the bolt up in my MP-22. Fixed under warranty but still exploded. Didn't stop me from buying a second one though.:p

I can't find much .22 either. And I specifically need CCI which makes it harder.

I want to pick up a 9mm and I also can get guns at cost. But the one I want is still $800 and I have other things that money needs to go towards currently.

+1 I've been seeing it everywhere recently and for normal prices too.

As I said, the last few 500 round boxes I've bought were all ~$25. Any AR15 ammo can't even come close to that. A .22 is cheaper to buy, cheaper to run, and IMO more fun as a pure plinker.

I don't have the skill to build an AR from scratch though. I'm in no hurry to get a rifle so I know now to save up for a real AR due to ammo constraints.

Neither did I, but its a really simple weapon. Just like anything else you'll feel uncomfortable At first but once you learn it you'll love it.

Sure you can, they are stupid easy to build. You need a couple tools that are about $30 total, and you are set.

Its fun, but you really dont save much from say buying cheaper end PSA type stuff.

I would think due to your age, you cannot buy stripped lowers (have to be 21).

Im going to suggest a 10/22 or a Savage MKII. 22 for life!
The 10/22 is one of my favorites, I can go to the range and spend $20 for all day shooting. Semi auto, with a HUGE aftermarket. Speed loader and 30 round mags allows you to go through a bulk box way too quick.

Savage is still new to me, but out of the box Im shooting ~1/2'' groups with bulk Blazer. Thats all gun, as I am far from a good shot. Bolt action, but still loads of fun.

I had a bit of 22 stashed away, and still do find it on the shelves. You cant have as much fun as cheaply as a good .22 with your cloths on. Sure you cant buy 15 boxes at a time, but it will come back. Neckbeards can only buy so much before their mom starts to complain. One day, someday it will be back on the shelves.
