I'm surprised that even though they technically own it now, they still don't contact the previous owner to tell him it's recovered and possibly be able to buy it back. If that happened to my truck id much rather know that it was eventually recoverd.

I contact OP and talked to him already. The owner knew that it was recovered.
Go back couple pages and read the thread. The owner was paid out 32K from his insurance company for it, so then the insurance owns it and they decided to sell it.

When I said they, I meant the insurance company lol. Does insurance notify the previous owner of recovery even though they paid it out? That's what I was saying I'd hope they'd do.

I'd guess most insurance co. employees aren't enthusiasts thinking the owner might be attached to their car. I would also think most people would have replaced it in a month and have no use for it.

Wow, this whole story is bizarre!! Glad to see the truck ride again! I take it the OP is done with TW now? Did he seem to care that his truck was found?

He might be done but he did reply to my new member thread and to my PM. He said they found the truck 4 months later so I'm assuming it was found late February or beginning of March. The insurance notified him so he was able to go and get what he could back from the truck. He was glad to see the truck back on the road.

One should take reasonable precautions as thieves like easier targets.

But if one has the misfortune to be either targeted, or even simply parked in an area where a ring decides to trawl, sad fact is
they will get you if they want you.

You could park it with a boot on all 4 wheels, a rabid Rottweiler in the cab, a king cobra coiled around the steering wheel, then return to find a few strands of dog hair and a small snake turd in an otherwise empty parking space...

    Thank you.
I got the truck at the end of the March and headlights did come in the mail until the Tuesday after Easter so I couldn't post it on Easter. Plus it took me some time to find this thread. I knew he would be a member because of the mods the truck had on it.

Hey guys, I commented on Snowhites new member thread but I figured one more appearance here would be fun.

Yeah, since so much time elapsed between the theft and the recovery there was no option to buyback the truck when I finally was able to see it.

I'm not sure what happened but basically the thieves were not pros. They got VERY lucky on this fortunate misfortune. They caught the dumbass because they have him driving around in the parking garage in his own vehicle on video. They just traced the tags to his address and picked him up. Problem was the truck must have been abandoned somewhere else so they got the perp but not the vehicle. anyway, a few weeks later I got a call from LV Metro PD and they were informing me they found the truck. I'm in San Diego and the wrecking yard will not divulge ANY info on the trucks condition so I had to drive out as soon as I could find time to see what the deal was. Mind you its four months later so I had pretty much given up on any hope of finding the truck.
The thieves basically took the low hanging fruit off the truck and anything else (like the suspension) was just left behind.
It certainly was a very strange situation but its nice to see the truck find a good home with someone. Even with a salvaged title, the truck is in perfect shape, Snowwhite got a solid deal. Resale is shot with the dinged title but its still a keeper.

Yea it is hard to resell a vehicle with a salvage title but I'm not planning on getting rid of it anytime time soon. It is in good hand and I will take care of this truck. It came with too much good stuff to turn around and sell it right away.

Did they ever figure out how the thief entered your room and steal the keys?

I think that's the biggest mystery here. Trucks get stolen everyday, but to have your keys stolen from your locked and occupied hotel room is quite a mystery indeed.

It is possible but not as easy. For some people when they hear salvage title, they assume that the truck was rolled 15 times and then managed to split in half but that's not always the case for salvage like this tacoma for example. Only needed wheels, bumper abs headlights.
I bought my 3rd gen 4runner for 3.3k which was salvage title too. Managed to sell it for 7k. I made profit on it but could of sold it for 9k if it was clean. It does lose value but not too much.

Aw, heck. Just about 8 million ways.

Bribe staff. Date staff. Staff itself.
Cleaners, maint, hotel 'security' .
Who installed the doors during construction?
    Electronic locks can be hacked.
    Cards can be cloned.

    Ever hear of locksporting?
With practice, some folks can slide though a door with a pick quicker than a key.

Soft shoes and a confident demeanor.

If the guy wakes up, brazen it out concerned and politely:
"Sorry, Sir. I'm Stephen on hotel staff. Folks next door said they heard someone moaning. Do you require assistance?"

Yeah, I was in one Vegas hotel and the electronic lock had a deadbolt knob on the inside - which of course I "locked". Lying on my bed reading quietly about an hour later and someone from hotel staff puts their card in the lock and opens the door. The deadbolt knob did absolutely nothing - total placebo. And the door didn't have a mechanical chain on it either.

Assume your hotel room is open to anyone who wants to enter at any time.
