That was an issue, it would put a lot of stress on the engine, i'm most likely going to aim for a 3" lift now.

That's understandable, I will admit that most of the reasoning behind my build a lot of it is for looks and personal preference. But with that being said I don't want to waste tons of money at the same time on just for looks.

Body kit lifting is just putting spacers in your truck correct?

I've been googling pictures of 3" lifted tacomas and from what i'm seeing a lot of them actually look different in height ( I know a few of them are 6" lifted on images) but other then getting bigger tires what else is there to make your truck go up in height with my budget?

    Thanks!

I saw this picture on here earlier from another user, that isn't a 3" lift is it?

Nope, I don't think so. Looks like a 6" lift with maybe 35's. A 6" lift is a drop bracket lift, it can be used for off roading but you'll have to spend a lot more money getting it ready to handle going off road. I mean, I'm sure you're not rock crawling, so if you really want that height, by all means do what you want to YOUR truck. Just realize that with that extra height from a 6" lift comes more mechanical issues compared to a 3" inch lift.

As long as you're looking back at your truck when you get out and saying "god damn, I did it the way I wanted to and it's f****** awesome", you're good :D

I run 285/70-17 Duratracs and MB TKO rims that I think are quite a bargain at $430/set delivered.

Haha, that's what I want! but with my budget i'm having some issues.

Soo i'm guessing overall I should aim for a 3" lift?

Again though, is there anything I can do to increase the height other then the lift?

Can't think of anything. I'd go OME 887 coils in the front and dakar leaf pack in the rear. 887 coils give you 3 inches of lift by some guys are measuring at 3.25 inches haha and the dakar leaf pack gives you 2.75 inches in teh rear. You'll also want OME shocks all around and I'd recommend Light Racing UCA's. Throw on some 33's are you should be happy with how it looks.

Alright man, thank you so much for helping me with this, I really appericate it. I will do some more research tonight then maybe call tomorrow and ask if they can do a 3" lift for me.

Gray wire mod, 4" coil lift, 2" block lift+2" AAL, rear air bags, re-located trailer wiring plugs, trail gear front bumper, kicker sound w/pioneer in-dash, 8" kicker sub, airaid MIT kit, trail gear rock sliders, arrow antenna, blacked out grille, HID kit, Smittybilt 8k winch, extended brake lines, LED overhead lighting, LED turn signals, Explorer Rock Lights, removable doors, Re-wired 4x4, Roof Rack
In my case I have a 4x4 but that doesn't really change much for you. I got the 1.75" quick lift strut from rancho for $300 and added a 3" coil spacer on top of that for the front. The ranchos are adjustable from 1-9 for the stiffness of the strut which is really nice for a daily driver/off roader. I also added a 2" block to the rear with a 2" AAL. All in all I probably spent $550 maybe less. Since you're 2wd you don't have to worry bout a diff drop which saves a good $30 and depending on if you want the 4.5"/4" lift I have or less the price gets cheaper as you go. For 2" you could get away with $400 roughly. Mine handles great offroad and carries the weight of my winch and bumper plus rock sliders with ease. Just my 2 cents. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1429747561.001615.jpg edit: also, all this can be done with regular tools BY YOU and there are tons of videos on YouTube that could show you step by step how to do this. I personally don't trust most shops to touch my truck. Too many idiots out there IMO

So would all this cost around $550? But let me get this straight though, this is a 3" lift?

I wish there was a short-cut or cheating way to get to a 6" lift with that same cost

Roughly. That isn't including rear shocks though. I have 4.75" of lift up front and 4" in the back but the weight of my bumper makes it basically 4" all the way around. But yes, that's how much it cost me. You can PM me if you want some detailed pictures or links to the lifts I used! Yeah 6" would be nice but after 4" it gets a bit hairy if you BS the lift at all. You'll easily spend 3 grand or more on a 6" lift

Why don't you just get maxtrac spindle since you don't have axle in the front. Way cheaper than a drop bracket when you don't need it.

If your budget was bigger you could do 6 inches. But it isn't. It's time to think more realistically. As an aside, if you want to turn those big tires you'll be getting horrible MPGs on the 4 cylinder. So if money is tight (sounds like it is) you're wanting to bite off a bit more than you can chew.

I'm down to 17 MPG average on a sub 3 inch lift and 265/75 ATs. You'll want gears which is another grand. Forgive me if I'm wrong, you just seem to be unrealistic with your budget.

Woops, a lot the info I tossed out there was assuming you had a 4x4 or 6 cylinder prerunner. Didn't think you had a 4 cyl. prerunner.

I'm honestly surprised Toyota is still making them, no offence or anything, but Toyota should stop making 4 cyl. prerunner's in my opinion. It is a truck after all :D

It seems you have a lot of unanswered questions. That's ok. Everyone knew nothing about modifying their tacoma at one point or another. You have to start somewhere. My advice to you is to take your time and do your homework. If you jump in and buy before you understand your options, you may end up with something you won't be happy with. I spent the better part of a year deciding what I wanted and changed my mind countless times. This site is a wonderful resource. Use it. Someone mentioned old man emu as a 3" lift option. Search that shit. Learn everything you can about ome lifts. If you like it, keep it in mind. If not move on to the next option. Keep doing this until you are confident that you know what you want. You will end up better off if you do it this way rather than buying something because Joe Schmo said to on this thread. Good luck!
