Oh brother, the drag racing argument on trucks . I doubt there's more than a few tenths of a second difference between any of the full sized trucks now (W/O mods).

Toyota has plenty of failures. Yes the power plants are mostly good but just look around on here. There's several issues on both the Tacoma and the Tundra. Toyota isn't bullet proof. I've had several Fords now, each well over 200K km and no major issues. None of them left me on the side of the road. Plus the local Ford dealer gets me right through if I do have an issue and goes that extra mile. Toyota could give two shits.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Tacoma. When I went shopping full sized though I took one look at the Tundra and passed. It's not worth it.

 to that. Nothing wrong with spending money how you want to.

    BTW just for laughs:

    Tundra: 381 hp (283 kW) at 5,600 rpm and 401 lb·ft (543 N·m) of torque at 3,600 rpm

F150 NA: 385 hp (287 kW) at 5750 rpm and 387 lb·ft (525 N·m) at 3850 rpm, but the trucks also 800 lbs lighter than the Tundra and gets better mpg

F150 FI (Still less dollars than Tundra): 365 hp (272 kW) @5000 rpm, 420 lb·ft (569 N·m) @2500 rpm hits max torque 1000 rpm before Tundra with 3-4 mpg better mileage. There's also a new variant of the 3.5 L due out with 450-500 HP sometime in 2017.

Pick your poison. Like I said, I wouldn't make fun of a guy for buying a Tundra. It's a solid choice. For me, especially since I care about operating costs, I went F150 for the wife. To each his own.

Anyone want to bet the new 3.5 L 7GR will be within single digits of the 3.6 L Chevy? It would make marketing sense, even if you have to detune the 7 GR a bit. Then when Chevy ups the HP without doing anything to the engine, which they regularly do, Toyota can just match it by taking the cuffs off.

Makes sense especially the 7GR getting detuned to match GM twins. Poker face  Perfect example to wait a few years later to get a better Tacoma :)

I am well aware. Post was just a joking attempt to get back on topic. :) Instead, here are some questions to fuel trolling, idle banter, or nothing at all excep the ignore button:

    - What benefits other than Atkinson/Otto switching could VVT-iW provide the 7GR?

    - If the 7GR has VVT-iE, what are the performance, reliability, or maintenance implications?

    - How many Toyota marketing reps are secretly helping keep these threads on track (if none, please raptor jesus come help)?

    - What could Toyota do to tune out the mid-range torque dip that D4-S has when switching injection styles from low to high RPM? (e.g., FA20 in BRZ/FR-S) Is this dip a system limitation (not capable of more power in that range), or is it an emissions limitation (by design)?

    - Do you think the 7GR will be tuned to run a higher horsepower map for 91 Octane vs 87 Octane? If Toyota has done this before (1GR), why wouldn't they choose to do it again?

    - Does the use of the GR block for the 7GR explain the initial rumors of vastly increased 2GR production in the US (because it was an order for more GR blocks...which led to a false conclusion of "+ XXXk GR engine must = Tacoma therefore 2GR!")?

    - Would you prefer the 7GR to power a vagina warmer or a dick cooler?

    - If the new rumor is that the 7GR is also in the '16 Lexus RX-350, why would the Tacoma and the RX-350 have different redlines?
See here for RX-350 (rumored 7GR):

See here for '16 Tacoma (confirmed? 7GR):

    - If these Tachometers represented the same engine, what are the implications of the different redlines? Would the engine share the same designation? What is the potential tuning difference?

    - How many tacos could a Taco Truck taco if a Taco Truck could taco taco's?

....I am going to regret hitting submit on this, aren't I?

The Taco has more gas in it than the RX.
The Taco runs hotter than the RX.
    The RX is definitely tuned-
    Into Classic Vinyl.
The Taco is tuned into SXM Deep Tracks.
    This has implications regarding-
Both the vagina warmer and the dick cooler.
    That's all I got.

The redline in the 4.0 Taco is different the redlines in the 4.0 4Runner though they are essentially the same motor. The main difference is the dual VVT.There could be a slight difference in the way it is tuned for preminum on one vehicle or 87 octane in the truck. A variety of reasons, all justifiable.

The engine going into the Tacoma might be tuned different. i.e. tuned more for torque then Hp. Hense the lower redline. Or it could be that both are still preproduction models and they aren't 100% accurate to what the final product will be.
Who knows maybe the chrome grill from the sport will be on the limited and the sport might have a body coloured grill instead. Won't know until they announce the final product.

Ok, maybe a silly question BUT... Why are people stoked about it being a 7GR? And what does 7GR mean? And why are people getting stoked on it now and not earlier? Sorry, I need up to speed...

People thought the Tacoma was getting the 2GR, which is a car engine with some known issues. The 7GR suggests a new design with potentially more power and less issues.

Thanks for a short and simple answer with no sarcasm/shaming for not knowing thrown in (which is what I was expecting). Repped!
