I'll never understand ordering a '15 just before the 16 comes out. It's usually in spite of the redesign which hurts no one but the buyer. If you don't want the redesign, fine, but at least give it a chance. If anything you will get a better deal on the '15.

    Just the basics
Before interweb sales and my bank helping get me better deals my family always used fleet dealers for personal vehicles. Two of my three Toyota trucks were purchased through a fleet dealer.

I have a worksheet for their allocation orders, which is handled by the inventory manager. As soon as they are permitted to upload their allocation, my order will be in.

just remember each region will start taking orders at different dates. my dealer hasn't even been notified of when they can start allocation orders.

he said maybe the 1st or 1 or 2 weeks after it opens up.

I've heard that when you do this, there are no deals, shitty financing
and you are locked in - this comes from someone who works directly
with dealers. How has your process been?

hmm, if I am correct, allocation orders are done via the Toyota regional order system on the computer. unless you have a big allocation allotment, don't see why you would need a worksheet. my dealer was lucky to get 3 allocations when the new restyled 2014 4runners came out (i think he was only allowed 2 due to not being a full fledged Toyota dealer, they also sell dodge/jeep/Chrysler)

depends on the dealer. my dealer makes money by volume sold, not per vehicle.

also sales person make $250 per vehicle sold period.

the sales person make different bonus amounts once they hit different tiers of cars sold per month.

the dealer found they make more money from hitting different tiers of vehicle sold from Toyota than having to gouge every customer.

seems to work since they have been doing this format for years now. yes i could go to another dealer and haggle for another 200-300 maybe 500 more off but at my age i could find better use of my time than trying to get a few extra hundreds off a vehicle price and driving across the whole state.

    Thanks.

So far my only reply from internet sales managers is - we'll
let you know when they're in. No other options stated from them which
seems odd if they have the opportunity to begin the process and lock-in
    a sale.

Autonation Toyota of Austin does a worksheet for each allocation order. It may be a local thing, but they are also 69 (heh heh) miles from the Tacoma/Tundra factory in San Antonio. They also get a lot of allocations. I simply emailed the Internet Sales guy, we did up their worksheet, and I'm my truck is now in the hands on the Inventory manager.

They use the worksheet to place the order through the computer system, and to help sales folks hunt down other vehicles through their Gulf States region. They can reach as far as Mississippi for a specific truck (destination fees), so it's better to try to get on the list before the orders are set.

I'm swinging by tomorrow to see if they have any new news, because we're getting awfully close to May 1st.

Should be interesting. I'll keep y'all posted.

Fleet orders open for 2016s on May 1st. Inventory managers can place allocation orders as if they were a fleet, or at least they try.

The difference for me was simple. If I buy a 2015 and want to mod it or fix some issue then I come to TW do a search and immediately find five threads with detailed pictures telling me what to do. Or possibly a link to a TSB that I take to the dealer to get it fixed. In less than an hour my problem is either solved or on the way to being solved.

If I buy a 2016 then I get to be the poor bastard to figure out the mod, take lots of pictures and make a thread telling everyone else what I broke along the way and how to do it right. And if something goes wrong with the truck I get to go to the dealer, beat the living shit out of the service department, still lose, pay out of pocket, wait two years to discover a TSB finally issued for my problem and then attempt to recover my money from Toyota.

If I want a new bumper, suspension or goodness knows what else with a 2015 I go and choose from five different third party manufacturers. With a 2016 I get to wait and wait for there to be options (of course that will all get sorted in a few years so if you can wait a few years not a problem, but in my case I can't).

In 25 years when I go to sell my truck what is the price difference going to be between my 2015 and a similar 2016? History with models would indicate if anything my 2015 might sell for slightly more at that point - but in the end the price difference would be negligible.

In what part of this process am I getting "hurt"???

Assuming you can even get the truck you want. If your designed configuration already has a 2 to 4 month wait on building then waiting just ensures you won't get the truck you want. And based on past changes it isn't even clear there will be much if any discount on 2015 models. It really depends on when the 2016s show up on the lot and what their sticker price is. Not clear at all what will happen at this point.

Like most things there isn't a single answer for everyone.

If you churn vehicles every three years and like the latest bling and gizmos then I completely agree - wait a few months and get a 2016 for sure.

If you like to get a "deal" based on MSRP rather than the price for what you actually want and need then by all means wait until September and buy that truck with $1K nav you don't want, $500 nerf bars you'll rip off, $200 floor mats you'll throw out and your third choice color you don't actually like that much. You'll get a $2K "deal" and in the end saved a whole $300 to get a truck you don't actually want. Or maybe you get lucky and actually get deal on exactly what you want. Or maybe you don't care that much. Or maybe the joy you get from a "deal" trumps any other preference. They are all the right answer for someone and the wrong answer for someone else.

For me I'll have absolutely no regrets driving around in my 2015 as I watch others drive in their 2016s. I greatly preferred the 2015 knowing exactly what was coming in the 2016. I expect the people in the 2016s will be equally happy with their choice.

It is sort of amazing, people are able to process information about available and future products, evaluate their choices against their needs and come to conclusions about what best meets their needs. Who would have thought that was possible? And my goodness it turns out some people with different needs reach different conclusions from other people with different needs!
