So if the May 1st date is true, what should we expect to know if anything? Colors? Trim and package details?

just remember Gulf States and SE Toyota have completely different rules than the rest of the Toyota regions.

just like the Cali CARB board vs the EPA for the rest of the usa.

as far as colors/trim, that should be in the allocation system screens when you put in your allocation.

er dealer puts in there allocation request. not all dealers will let you see that screen.

I'm well aware of Southeast Toyotas system, and I'm not fond of it. SET has a tendency of putting about $3-5k of worthless port/dealer added items just to get more money out of you and into their pockets. /rant

I'm most interested in knowing what kind of red we will see as a color option. Will it be a radiant red like the 05-08 MY or a Barcelona red like recent years.

Yeah, never went for any of that. I always change out wheels/tires so
I get what's cheapest as I know it's not staying as well as doing any work
I can myself, well just because I don't like people touchin my stuff! :)

You totally got it, in my opinion.
Lots of ways to think or move on the 15 vs 16.

I am going for a 16, love the new dash & hopefully the new engine, probably have to wait on some mod's abit. kinda of thinking to wait til early spring 16 to purchase a new Taco, maybe color & model availability will be more readily available, and all the commotion will be settled down a bit?

My only issue, is my current rig, a '13 with only 22K miles on it is still worth quite a bit if I sell it, after 16's out will everyone want the 16? Oh well, guess it will all even out, if I get the '16 1st month they are available, most dealers probably will not discount much, even on a fleet/internet deal.

Best bet on what color of Red will be offered is to look at the current red that is offered on the Corrolla. It may be insignificant but the Tacoma has always used many Corrolla parts including door handles & switches and the colors offered for both of these vehicles are usually very similar.

Leather. I think it's the Liquicel brand, zippered everywhere so the end user can remove the leather shell and steam the foam padding underneath. Steaming foam recharges it after use. The GST leather package is pretty nice.

Currently have the cloth option in my 2011 Sport - You saying the leather
is crap and not worth it? Not sure if I'm going that route this time or
not - I did like it in the Titan I traded in.

    This...for sure!!

I'd have to see this color on the 2016's.... but right now? It's HOT!

Otherwise, I'll go with another SWB equivalent.

    Good nose!

I'd be totally happy with a 16 if my life schedule was a few years different. It turns out just because of where I will be living and working that in this upcoming year it makes sense to have a truck and mod it to death and serve me for the next 20 some odd years. After that my truck and I will be on opposite sides of the country and doing mods will be a royal pain. So 2015 is the better answer. Were I doing this a year or two later then I'd be doing it with a 2016 or 2017 and would be just as happy.

If you can wait then I think you are right to wait just a little bit for the commotion to settle down and not purchase right in the fall. I'm sure a bunch of mods will carry over easy (suspensions probably) while others may take awhile (front bumper).

I think you'll be good. There won't be any used 16s to purchase and if someone is deciding to go used they've already decided on a 2nd gen. I honestly don't expect the 2016 is going to impact used sales or prices very much at all. The market for a three year old truck will be the same old market for a three year old truck. Now - try to sell a three year old truck in 2019 and maybe it will matter whether it is a 2015 or 2016 you are selling...

Well, here's the facts about the leather in an '05 Tundra. I know it is not factory leather. It has a "Liquicel" tab on the front passenger bucket seat. The truck was originally bought in Texas.

Every seat and the folddown captain armrests up front has a zipper on it so it's aftermarket, therefore I say it was a Gulf States Toyota port option. Gulf States Toyota is about the only that has the port option leather.

It's a nice option that Gulf States offers, I'm pleased with it though I didn't buy it originally. It's pretty much pristine after 10 years and me the third owner. Good option and rare.

Coming back into the tacoma world after a stint without a truck. Talk of first release concerns is hitting home given my current car and the rather bit of fun and turmoil it has produced (2010 jetta diesel wagon) in my life.

Here in the Bay Area, it seems like the 4x4, v6, access cab, trade offered package, manual is a bit of a unicorn. I did test drive the one available (in the last 2 days) locally. I was concerned about the extra size considering my last Tacoma was early 2000s and a bit smaller. I thought the vehicle was solid and not too big.

I'm in the 2015 vs 2016 camp, I don't commute much right now (mostly work at home), but the appeal of the bump in gas milage is drawing me to the 2016.

We will see if patience or desire wins, I guess.

    DVexile,

You certainly make a cogent argument but there is one problem: I think you have misunderstood my original post. Let's review your points, you claim that buying a 2015 is better than buying a 2016 because it's already got 10 years of write-ups, mods, DIYs, and aftermarket support so that any problem or desire that arises can be addressed immediately. This is true. Inversely, the 2016 will be a "guinea pig" of sorts with no write ups or user experience to help you out at all if you find yourself in a situation you want to change. You also say you might not even get a better deal on a 2015 based on previous redesigns, this is also true. Finally, you make the point that if you are special ordering a specific configuration, you won't even be looking on the lots to get a better deal! You're getting exactly what you want with no discount, but rather the satisfaction of having the perfect truck. And with those points, you aren't getting hurt at all, so where in my original post am I even close to being right?? Well, let me tell you what the problem is.

The argument that all of your well thought out points are refuting is this:
"There is no reason to buy a 2015 over a 2016"
Well, the argument I actually made was this:
As you can see, I said nothing about driving a 2015 vs a 2016, which is actually where your sarcastic comment comes into play - You mention the people who swap vehicles every three years and simply MUST HAVE the latest technology offered, and I believe you were thinking of me. That is not the case with me, the satisfied driver of a 2007 Tacoma.

The argument I actually made was about going on the lot to buy a 2015 before the 2016's roll off the truck. Hell, if we even knew the specs on this truck yet I would say you're right. However, all we have seen is aesthetics and we know nothing of the HP, TQ, MPG, and we have a hunch about the price. This is where buyers start to get "hurt". If you look at my post once more, you'll notice I said most of the people buying 2015s are doing so out of spite for the redesign, meaning they patiently waited and didn't like it, so got upset and marched over to the dealership to show Toyota how much they don't need the 2016 Tacoma. This is in reference to all the posts after January 12th when everyone's pants were wadded and said, "Screw that I'm getting a 2015". THAT is what I said I would never understand, deciding you won't like a truck you don't know anything about yet and purchasing a 2015 literally months before the redesign comes out. THAT is what hurts the buyer because the buyer is limiting him or herself with no beneficial outcome.

In further support of that point, if someone decides they want a 2015 after the 2016 is released, that means they were not considering the 10 years of support for the 2015 (Which was the basis of your argument) at all, and that they were actually considering a redesign and decided they didn't like it, which you should not do until all details are released. If they really were concerned about all that support they would cross the 3rd gen off the list and already have a 2015 in their driveway.

Now, when you mentioned special ordering a truck, you're right there only because in a short time you will no longer be able to do so. If you know what you want is not on the lots, then waiting for the redesign could possibly cost you your configuration, and we know that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. But if you're like the majority of buyers, you are just going to pick one off the lot.

In summary, if waiting for option 2 is going to cost you option 1, you have decisions to make. However, if waiting for option 2 does not affect option 1, you are limiting yourself by hurrying to option 1 before option 2 is given to you. That is the argument I made and that is not the argument you responded to. Unfortunately, now those who didn't stop and consider my post see it in a negative light after reading yours. I'm sure you didn't intend that since you misunderstood my post. If that is not the case, you're utilizing the straw man fallacy. But again I don't think you meant to do that.

Now, does that all make sense?

I don't think you understand what I'm saying. If someone decided to buy a 2015 after seeing the exterior of a 2016, they did not care about being guinea pigs or they wouldn't look at it at all. My post is about people deciding they don't like the truck before knowing the specs when they were previously ready to buy it. To clarify I personally wouldn't buy a first year model either because I think some things on it will be redesigned such as the grille or headlights.
