I am having trouble choosing between two wheel styles. The problem is I do t know whether the 16x7.5 or the 17x7 would be better. Like is that extra half inch of width really makes a difference or not. Thanks in advance for the advice.

I recommend you just pick which ever wheel design you like best. Both wheel sizes will limit you to 265s.

Others will be able to give you more knowledgeable answer, but I have 16x7.5 wheels (FJ Trail Teams) with 285-75-16 tires and my friend has the 4runner pros that you're looking at with 285-70-17 and there's no real difference other than sidewall-wheel ratio. As far as looks go, I think my wheels look a little small for my tire size but his don't look anymore 'sucked in' than mine. I wouldn't worry about the width difference.

I gotcha. I have to say I'm relatively new to the whole truck stuff. I plan on lifting my truck to at maximum 3". I would like some bigger tires but nothing like the 285s that some members use. Just something to complement the lift and be useful. So maybe a size like 275/75 r16 or like 265/75 r17. Not sure if I got that right but I just don't really want to trim anything to make the bigger tires fit is all.

Your tire of choice should be considered.

Not just the size, but the brand/model.

When you look it up on the manuf site you'll find they recommend a min/optimal/max rim width.

So pick all your wheel specs for your application function first, then find the looks you want within those specs.

You can pick looks first, but then everything else needs to adjust to work with the selected wheel.

I recently purchased my truck (Jan) and lifted it (early March) so I have been hesitant/scared to do anything off road but I did have rubbing once going into a banked turn on a hilly/windy road. Couldn't tell where it rubbed. I was a little unsure about 285s for the same reasons you are, until the tire shop threw the first one on.

You are correct in that they are money. Both sets look great on MGM trucks. I've been doing some looking before I posted. My main issue was the wheel sizes. Couldn't figure out if the half in of width from the 16s would be better. I mean I know my truck has the 17x7.5 sport wheels. Just didn't know if going a half inch less in width would be bad or something.

My off-road need is going to be limited to the occasional gravel road and farm stuff. So I don't need a super serious all terrain tire. Just something that is capable. Brand and size wise.

I vote number one, fake beadlocks are for posers ( Admittedly, they do look good )

I ultimately chose to go with the 17" ones. My wife likes them much better and they are a bit cheaper. Any tire suggestions? I'm running stock suspension at the moment and was wanting something like a 275/70r17. Didn't know if that's too big or not.

I like both wheels. I already had 16" tires on my truck, so I had to go with the beadlocks

I have the simulated beadlock ones on my truck but in bronze. I think they look great and they really suit the truck well. I think 17's look a little out of place on a Tacoma and they look better with more rubber in my opinion, so the 16's would be my choice.

The beadlock comes off with a few screws and they still look awesome. ;)

I'm in a very similar spot as the OP. I really want his option #1. My 15 sport has stock suspension right now but I will be doing a 3" Icon lift in the future. Would option 1 limit my potential tire size that much once I do the lift?
