I think the major issue is that no one wants to see the Tacoma get beaten by a competitor in an area that could be easily avoided such as the brakes when there are other areas the Tacoma might lack in such as price and fuel economy both treading into full size territory along with no power seats or power rear window.

Inversely, perhaps GM just slapped unnecessarily strong brakes on their truck so that it could have a little more to hold over the Tacoma's head. It goes both ways.

Most rear brakes will last a long time, brake life in general can vary greatly depending on the driver. I've had the brakes on my GTO for over 50k and they're still fine, even after several canyon runs, hard braking situations and all. Even when they do fail...15 minutes per axle to change.

This is a really good point. Drums are a cost saving measure. Do they get the job done? Sure, but I would enjoy a bit more stopping power.

Honestly, I've been buying trucks for 20 years and have never even looked at or worried about what kind of rear brakes they have. And I've towed with every truck I've owned.

You won't get any more stopping power out of rear discs. It's been said before, the bed is too light.

I'm pretty sure the ENGINEERS at Toyota would spec rear discs if they would add any benefit.

My rear disks made a drastic change! I even threw an extra 150 lbs of axle weight in the truck. One i can actually lock up all 4 now vs the truck struggled before. My opinion if you havent experienced both there is no honest review. With the added axle weight is what sells it for me. Fyi stock axle housing i could lift with my finger..:/

As far as drums vs. discs in the back, i wish they would switch to discs mainly for the convenience factor, and because I've had problems sometimes with my parking break not releasing when it gets below freezing in the winter. so i just have to drive it for like 100ft or something until they pop loose. And has anyone else noticed the butt ugly air dam on the front bumper of the 2016?

This color has made me even more excited for the 2016 release, Th a k you for sharing the pics!

I'm personally very excited to test drive a 2016. Lots of little changes that get overlooked give some incentive to check out the new model. I love the new looks, aside from the grille, they speak to improved ride, vibration, cab noise, etc, which will feel more polished than my 2007. The interior design has some new appeal to me, as well. Very excited to see it.

I'll be taking the dremel to that grille just as soon as it hits my garage. Its hideous, but not unfixable. I think it'll really look great with a black mesh satoshi with 2 fog lights behind it. Time will tell!

If we could get confirmation on 2nd gen aftermarket suspension compatibility I'd feel pretty confident that I'll be ordering shortly after the release. If we have to wait on said parts, I'll be sitting on the sidelines for a little while.

I'm going to make it look just like my 2007, perhaps even with the BHLM (even though I hated doing mine...)

I had to do an axle swap, as my oem axle was not good enough for my application
I do know that this will work for oem application tho, i know couple guys that have and like the conversion.

Thanks, guys. I see great potential in the harder lines of the 2016. You have to look past that horrible stock chrome grille, but I'm liking the rest of it quite a bit.

I expect we'll see some pretty cool options for transforming that front end in the very neAr future!

Maybe, maybe not. It all comes down to a balance between performance and cost.

By that logic, the Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger would all come with long tube headers and 3 inch stainless steel exhaust. Definitely a benefit...but it would increase the cost of the vehicle.

The sport chrome is kinda funky, the limited looks ok though, either
way - you're setup has em both beat, I'd really like to do the same
thing. Are you planning on going to the '16 as well?

Unlike many of you, I do not think the new Tacoma looks terrible.

    2016-toyota-tacoma-double-cab-limited-si_7bb3404167b24dbcfd445ef80be2489fcf61a9cc.jpg
I've had this picture as my wallpaper at work for quite some time now and many have complimented it. Granted I'm not a fan of the extra chrome on the Limited Tacomas, I think it looks great. I'm sure plenty of people will figure out how to create a sharp looking off road bumper that works with the new grill. I would love to get my hands on one as soon as aftermarket parts start getting released, if I don't decide to snag a 2015 before they are gone.

One other thing... Granted I see the point of having extra features in the full sized trucks, I also don't get it. I bought a mid sized truck because I have no need for the power / towing capacity of the Tundra or F-150 (forget the others). Is someone really going to buy a more expensive and larger truck just because it has a power rear window or heated mirrors... I hope not.

I also think this looks amazing... That grill is sweet.

I'm also willing to bet many will ditch that air dam pretty quickly.
