NDP out front in Alberta ?

Wouldn't surprise me. The wildrose is filled with racist Evangelicals and the PC's are getting major blow back on almost everything they try to say.

My biggest fear is that the NDP will overspend if they get a majority and try to get the shortfall out of the corporations in Calgary and the top ten percent earners. While that sounds like a great plan to most of the sheeple what will we do when the companies roll up there offices back to Houston because the bosses don't want to pay 20 percent provincially and the company doesn't want to pay 15 percent corperate tax.

I meant 15 percent provincially. You have to add on federal tax to that. My bad.

The corporate rate provincially is 10 percent in Alberta right now, which has attracted a lot of corporate offices to Calgary. I have a friend who is running for the NDP and she has told me there's no way they leave the corperate rate below 15 percent provincially. A 5 percent jump scares the shit out of me, it'll make the recession far worse.

Exactly. The NDP is delusional if they think that companies will just accept a 5 percent hike which puts Alberta way above everyone else out west. If the NDP here could just keep their plans half sane I'd consider voting for them but right now all they want to do is promise to fix every problem with more money from huge tax increases.

I'm not going to argue against that. Keep it off food and vehicles under 30,000 though, to keep life easy on those with less cash. I wouldn't mind seeing a 13.5% tax bracket for those making over $250K a year too.

 

No this came from an NDP candidate though at a private party. I can PM you the name if you want. I was taking about how the NDP should show us a dollars and cents budget on how they intend to increase services and she openly said that a 15 percent business tax rate was on the table. I thought she was joking until I realized her face was dead serious. She thinks companies are committed to Alberta and won't get up and leave over 5 percent

That's unfortunately not that uncommon amongst a lot of First Nations communities

 

The Rangers are all from Inuit communities IIRC , the Northern Gateway and Kinder Morgan routes are way south of them

Yes, snowmobiling by yourself, anywhere remote or off trail is not a great idea. Typical snowmobile weighs 600lbs. A common mechanism of death is plunging into water or ending up with the machine on top of you pinning you in the snow, or traumatic injury from collision with rocks, trees, and riding off cliffs. (everything is white so t can be hard to read the terrain at times.)

Last callout was something we affectionately call a 'bastard' search.
Fellow was under court ordered restrictions. His story was that his motorbike (think adult mini-bike you use to run around in the pits at a race track) broke down, so he pushed it back to his buddy's place in the area, and stayed the night there. (he's now broken his curfew conditions to be at home at night) He then hung out all day, presumably hiding out, or recovering from a binge. Search was initiated that evening, and continued into the next day (my turn). Once he saw/heard the commotion involved, he snuck home.
He was arrested at his home, to be in front of a judge the next morning. Not sure of the outcome, but they usually stay in jail if they show they will not follow the court orders.

 

Not that I recall. The topic of charging for SAR focuses on not wanting to cause unnecessary delay in a response because of a fear of "How much is this going to cost?" you don't get a bill for FD or police services, so why SAR? There's more confidential parts to the story - basically a dumb ass young man that has a history of making bad choices.
