Unfortunately I can imagine a dealership would want to squeeze as many hours out of the job as they could. Good luck man

Just dropped my 2002 Tacoma ext cab at Holman Toyota in Mount Laurel, NJ

There is a hole near the passenger side spring leaf mount.
I am hoping for a buy-back or new frame since the undercoating was done 5 years ago but did not stop the rust.

I will let you know what happens.

50J- Safety Recall Campaign - Toyota Front Suspension Lower Ball Joint
    Completed 12/28/05

    90D-Limited Service Campaign - 1996 - 2004 Year Tacoma
Frame Corrosion - Resistant Treatment completed 03/31/10

C0V- Safety Recall Remedy - Certain 01-04 MY Tacoma Originally sold in and/or currently registered in the Cold Climate States - Excessive Corrosion of the Spare Tire Carrier Lift Plate
    Not Completed

    UPDATE:

Rebuilt report came up on my vehicle history...oh well
They replaced the tire carrier but still fighting the frame issue, got a case number and waiting for a call from Toyota (South Florida office). Impact was in front bumper, rust is in the back... I just need that one spot fixed really... otherwise it is in OK shape.
More updates later but probably a no-go for frame replacement

You'll likely get a new frame of the coating was done. They stopped the buy back

Thanks. Looks like those are for earlier model non-Tacomas, though.

"All frames are made for solid front axles ( replacing your weak IFS), and leaf springs. They will fit from 1979-1995 (non-Tacoma and T100) pickups and 4Runners. "

My local shop told me they would replace the frame if I brought one in...they told me it is 40 hours of labor, at $120 per hour, which would be $4800 plus tax...plus the leaf springs, attaching hardware, etc...

Thanks for the info. Sounds like they are giving you a decent hours estimate. I'm still looking at my options. Going with the dealer would still be a bit rich for my blood, but 40 definitely beats 60...

    Hi all,

I had meant to write this last year, but then (surprise) got busy :) Just wanted to follow up in case it helps somebody else.

In an earlier post on this thread somebody gave the link to a place that sells replacement parts that you can buy to weld into the frame yourself - www.autorust.com. As it turns out they also do frame repair work themselves. Since they are in Rhode Island and I am nearby in Mass., I went there. They sandblasted the frame, welded in replacement sections to the rusted out pieces, undercoated the frame, and installed leaf springs that I brought in, all for around $2800 (a little bit underneath their original estimate). It's been about a year, and the truck is still running strong. If you are local to New England (or even further out) and have a frame rust issue, going to this place is one option you may want to consider.

Anyone find a solution to this ?

    My thoughts are

4 runner frame ( how close are they )
newer tacoma frame 2 gen ?
Wonder how hard it would be to make your own ? copy the rails and do a solid axle

i can not find one used at all !
