Hey guys, new to the CO area and have a question regarding vehicle registration. I moved here in the beginning of January and have been waiting until my South Dakota tags are nearly expired in July to register my vehicle in state. Back in SD we never had to put our vehicles through inspection before registration.

Long story short, I installed an OME lift and removed the sway bar on my pickup. Is the sway bar something they check in a vehicle inspection down here? Do I have to reinstall it when the time comes in order to pass?

Only inspection I'm aware of is emissions and that isn't even statewide (depends on what county you're in)
May have to have a VIN inspection to register if title is out of state.
I think you have 30 days to register if you move here so don't tell them it's been since Jan.

I don't believe that should matter, although I've never taken a sway bar off any car/truck that came with one. They basically just run the truck on a dyno and test the exhaust. I'm pretty sure a lit check engine light will cause it to fail as well. Just leave the cats on the exhaust and make sure no lights are lit on the dash and you should be fine. That's my experience anyway.

Awesome, thank you for the info guys. The rig is mechanically sound and doesn't have a check engine light. Should pass an emission inspection unless something catastrophic happens during the test itself.

I'll make sure to let them know I'm a "new" resident when I go to register.

A small handful of select mods.
I just went last month as just a renew as a resident and all they did was hook up the OBD run a quick test, unplug it and passed me.

We have emissions requirements for registration. We don't have an inspection requirement (yet) for registration so your suspension modifications won't matter. Yet. There's legislation being discussed that would require inspection and make aftermarket suspension and other modifications a fail. Let's hope common sense prevails but lately it hasn't met expectations.

Is the legislation being discussed for the entire state or only for counties that currently require emissions testing?

    Nope

"The full counties of Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson and portions of Adams, Arapahoe, Larimer, and Weld counties require a passing emission test to register a vehicle. If you are unsure if a test is required in your area, please contact your local county motor vehicle office."

It was only recently that I had to get emissions here in Weld.

Got it once on the Ranger I used to have. Haven't yet had to get it on the Tacoma.

So one test in ~16 years :D

Just dropping in to say hi. I ordered my Tacoma Trd pro 7 weeks ago and still waiting on it unfortunately, I was told by Toyota it will be the last pro built. Inferno with the 6 speed, I'm pretty excited!

This is all new to me I'm a tech at a performance shop and have never had an off-road vehical of my own, all my knowledge is in making cars fast and handling.

Anyway just checking in, I'm in Fort Collins.
