Phone won't let me upload the pictures. I'll try to get them up, but a basic description should give a good idea.

Basically watched im slow motion at 60mph as an inch to inch and a half rock twirled my way. I cringe every time I pass one on a two lane highway and tonight it got me.

It basically hit right on the rolled edge behind the rear drivers window on my access cab. There is about a 1/4" circle dent with the paint flaked away and what anyone else would swear was a BB dent in the center.

Anyone ever have or hear of a dent like this?

8300 miles on the truck and I'm obsessing with this.

Yeah, he was doing at least 60 and I was as well the opposite way.

Really wish it would have taken a window now, those are easily repairable. I just don't know how much it will cost to repair the right way and not just touch up paint it.

Here's the pics. Thinking it might be a cheaper option to find a replacement door.

This sucks. Any thoughts or input from anyone?

Damn.... that has got to be the shittiest place ever to get a dent (other than your face). I'm sure to do it right, a trip to the body shop is in your future. Sucks.

Unless you do your own body work nothing you do at home is going to fix it. Take it to a body shop.

Not knowing your deductible is, may be worth an insurance claim.

As others have said, may be time to have a body shop look at it.

All the body shops are closed today locally. Just started a claim process and from the looks of it I have a $250 comprehensive(which this should be) and a $500 collision deductible.

For S and G's I priced some replacement doors and as low as 450 wrong color or 780'ish matching color but who knows about fading and such.

The sound of that rock still rings in my ears, litterally sounded like a baseball hit it. In hindsight I should have turned around and got the trucks plate number and company info from the door. I really didn't know the extent of it until I got home 30 minutes later.

Sickening feeling, and this is definitely not a DIY project unless I replace the complete door. I'm guessing it will be upwards of $1200

    Shouldn't be.

A new forward door from Toyota is less than $800. That's a bare door that has to be finished and all the current door components transferred to.

That plus a repair of two dents just as bad in my access door (on the leading edge) was under $1700.

Get a couple of estimates. Even get a mobile repair place or two to give you a quote. You might find a good deal there.

Good luck. Sorry for your misfortune!

You'd have a very hard time proving that the rock came off the truck. I doubt it'd be even worth the effort of small claims court. Years ago my mother had a truck in front of her send a rock flying from between the dualies. She called the truck company and they paid for it. Now its too late assuming they'll even agree to pay anyway.

This example that happened to my mother car she called right away from a pay phone(pre cell phone days) additionaly it only hit the windshield.

Of course if it was a rock truck then they are liable they are supposed to cover the load.

Yeah, I was meaning only for insurance purposes. They asked if I was able to get any information from the truck. I'd let them go after anything in that regards, I'm sure it's relatively common with trucking companies, but not what I'd persue on my own, that's why I have insurance.

Hoping a claim won't affect my rate much. First time I've ever had to use it in 24 years of driving.

instead of replacing the whole door for such a small dent, you can take it to a body shop. the way I see it can be done is to sand away a little more paint around the dent and fill in the area with body filler then paint that small section. only you would be the only one to know the dent was there.

thats the easiest cheapest way to have it done! does that quote include the labor? how long would it take? should be a two day process at most to allow the fresh paint to cure

I had a door replaced last year and it came out to $1500 for a new door, paint, and labor.

I can sympathize with you man. I just spent $300 having a paintless dent guy taking micro dents out of my hood and fender that only I could see, and the next day leaving the golf course I literally watched a ball bounce off the driveway and hit my bumper. I lucked out as it caught more of my license plate than bumper and didn't cause any damage to the truck. But my heart sank when I saw that coming. If the truck was 5+ years old or something I would learn to live with a dent or two, but its hard when you spend so much time keeping the truck clean and you still owe big money on it.

If it was me I would bite the bullet and get it fixed right. It sucked spending 300 on dents that only I could see but afterwards it felt like a weight lifted off my shoulders. Was well worth it. You sound like you feel the same way about the truck that I do, so go get it done.

    Good luck either way!

OP, I feel for you. Your insurance rates shouldn't go up as it's a comp claim.

My '08 has all kinds of dings & scratches. I use it as a truck, so damage is going to happen. Never bothered to fix any of it.

Pretty much every time I wash it, I find some new scratch. Last week found two 3" long shallow dents on my access door. Looks like someone opened their door on it, and decided to do it again for good measure.
