    Im wondering if fiberglass resin would make a wooden shop bench top more durable, and more resistant to water, or other liquids. Thoughts?

    My old bench had what was essentially laminate flooring on it. No seems, repelled fluids, very durable. Paint, glue, and other sticky stuff could be scraped off with a razor. Stain was about the only thing that would harm it.

    A few OE parts from fancy trucks
    My general working bench tops never have any seams, usually 3/4 plywood, maybe doubled for some beef. I've used leftover Thompson's water seal on them before, makes them pretty repellant.

    I have some cut to fit scraps of carpet (short nap commercial grade) that I lay on when working on fairly clean projects that I don't want things to roll around or to be marred (like fishing reel repair). If I get oil or grease on the carpet, I don't usually care very much. I have more.

    Been thinking about a nice piece of heavy sheet of aluminum to fit on too, with a front edge (90* bend). While 'noiser' it would be pretty durable. Problem is finding a piece of scrap large enough to work isn't easy.

    Also have an eye out for discarded commercial sink assemblies, which are usually stainless. One with a counter large enough to cut down for a top.

    The laminate Oz mentions looks like a reasonable choice too.

    I don't want to use anything that's going to change the look of the wood. Fiberglass resin is clear, and durable, but just wondering about applying it to wood.
