We've had a couple people state that the part got bent in shipping. This can happen from being dropped on the corner directly from a height. I've beat the crap out of the one on my truck with no problems at all. Had a large band saw fall over when I pulled away from a redlight. Ratchet strap snapped, slammed into the tailgate. Only damage was powder coat was scratched, touched it up with gloss black spray paint. The part itself won't have problems once bolted to the tailgate. I will start packaging the item better to keep this from continuing to happen.

No, the square corner is the weakest point because its a corner and theres a +/- 1/2" hole right there. This skin is strong as hell when its connected to the tailgate!

Installed mine this wknd. Took out all the plastic mounting points, drilled and replaced with hardware that came with the plate. The crunch screw had about enough by the time the last one was done. Tight fit shutting the tailgate but it all works.

Awesome write up and detailed descriptions. I didnt realize you had to drill the tailgate, but it looks simple enough. Will be ordering one in the next few days.

Are there different types of threaded inserts provided?

The ones that came with mine require the use of a tool similar to , and the instructions appear not to require a wrench or socket.

No. Just a nut and bolt are a cheaper, yet more difficult way to install them. The tool from Harbor Freight is a little easier to use.

The kit comes with a one nut and one bolt to put into each threaded insert to tighten and "set". With a little force they work fine but if i had that tool, i use it. The nut and bolt were spent by the time i was done with all of the inserts but it worked...

You barely drill out the holes from the plastic inserts already there if using the supplied hardware.

So there are two versions of the ribbed skins? Horizontal, and vertical? I would think the horizontal ribs would be stronger than the vertical ribs. Am I wrong?

Didn't see the option in the website, so was the vertical ribs a special order?

The vertical ribs are a one off. He requested the other direction to match the ribs in the bed of the truck. I ran two of them just in case someone else wanted one.

arsenj0365, sent you a couple of PMs...appreciate if you can reply to them. Another question is there going to be another group buy?

I was finally able to get my tailgate skin installed. Not only does it look great, but it really does make it stronger. I was finally able to crawl on my tailgate without hearing those awful creaks! It also adds some weight, which I think is another plus. Joe was awesome to work with, even when he had to deal with a knucklehead like me that messed up many of the threaded inserts (I recommend having a buddy help you do this step in order to get them flush).
Not the best pictures, but they should give you guys a good idea:

Yes, I bought the top cap too. I was worried I wouldn't like it since it doesn't have the lip overhang on the back... But now that it is on, I really like how it looks.

It looks real sharp...may I have a closer / better picture of the top cap with the tail gate up so I can see the details?
