This weekend I had a 2WD friend get stuck in a field of mud and he called me to come tow him out. Now, let it be known that traction was most certainly low at all four wheels even on my truck. I put it in 4LO and let the truck work some magic pushing power around to the wheels that had traction. Although the wheels spin, they spin at the same rate (instead of a one tire fire) and as the truck found grip it pulled him free. Just thought I'd post and let you know my results. Your mileage may vary.

Might wanna try leaving a little slack in your snatch strap so it actually snatches. You’d be amazed at how much faster you would’ve got him out.

Edit: I’m hoping that was a proper recovery strap and not a “tow strap”. =|

Nothing wrong with a static recovery strap so when used properly... and so long as it’s not some cheapo strap from autozone with pot-metal hooks on the ends lol and by the looks of the video they did use it safely.

Nothing funnier/scarier than watching some dude try to yank on a static strap and send his hitch ball* into his buddies grille lol

a dynamic recovery strap/snatch strap/whatever you wanna call it certainly would have gotten them out faster tho, but different tools is never a bad thing.

I think we’re both in agreement here, hah. I was looking through old yellow wire mod threads and saw this vid, the recovery method, the people standing around, and instantly went into internet expert mode and mashed the reply button.

I just live in a place where I’ve seen a lot of people (including my younger self) do some dangerous and awful stuff (not that this falls into that category), and I’ve developed an OCD/aspergers level reaction to recovering vehicles. Especially at work. Lol, they hate me. Anyway, yeah…

Edit: also, amen on the pot metal hooks and ball hitches flying through peoples’ grilles, including the ones inside the cabs…. :puke:

Edit Edit: I gotta say the worst was when a small open cab front-end loader was trying to pull a small tractor stuck in a ditch using the ratcheting chains used to secure it to the trailer… I couldnt believe it. Needless to say, the chains broke, yanking a few hydraulic lines loose along with some shrapnel that used to be part of the chains, and yeah…
