I have faith in the 7GR too. Unlike what many feared, it's not a Camry motor stuffed into a truck. Looks like it was engineered for the Tacoma, a truck. While displacement does mean something, it means less than it used too. Toyota knows their stuff. They've known GM was working on the new Colorado. They know Nissan has a new Frontier coming. They know other automakers are closely watching the mid-sized market to perhaps jump in the ring with everyone else. No way Toyota is gonna put a junk motor in the new Tacoma. It will be better than the 4.0.

I'm 69 miles away from the plant. California Tacos may come from Mexico, but Texas Tacos come from San Antonio.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
And thats based on .......... ??!
I would like to remind you that neither Sienna nor Camry had 4.0L in them...
Just because number is changed does not mean its "All New" Its 7GR because none others had Atkinson and Direct Injection together except hybrids, and those are angle mounted (not really possible in the truck with front drive shaft.) So yeah it had to get new number.
That engine is probably "all New"
Just like 2016 is "All New" truck...o_O

No, people were worried the new Taco would be the same 3.5 V6 that is currently in the Camry. And my opinion is based on the fact Toyota has had a decade to work on a better powerplant for the new Tacoma. Displacement is not everything. I am confident they won't screw it up because the Tacoma is Toyota's best-selling pickup. It's what brings a lot of younger people into the brand. They have a lot riding on it being competitive in a segment that is on the upswing.

    Depends on the Taco.
My Access cab came from Texas. Wish they still built them in California. Quality seemed better.

I don't think he was saying all CA Tacomas were coming from Mexico. He was just saying the essentially all Texas Tacomas come from Texas. Other places they could come from either Mexico or Texas.

FWIW, my 2015 DCSB TRD OR bought in NV came from Texas...

All I know is that mine will never see a train car. Less than 2 hours after hitting the road from the plant it will be getting off-loaded. That's good enough for me.

Seeing how the stamping extends into the long bed, I think the DCLB is gonna be suh-wheeeeeet!

I'm getting antsy to confirm my order, and that ain't just the scotch talking.

The stamping's no different on the short-bed than the long bed, is it?

Take a look at the two. The AC bed carries the crease over from the door, and that is lost in the wheel flare on the short bed. In the DCLB (see the Pro shown in Canada), it carries all the way across. Looks complete on the DCLB, but interrupted on the DCSB.

I ran a search of 2010-2015 Tacomas starting from San Antonio and going to Dallas. Only looking at DCs, because ACs aren't made in Mejico. Out of the first 30 Double cab results, 21 were USA built and 9 were Mexican built. You better get it in writing Capt, your truck has a very good chance of being a Baja built because it seems like alot of long bed trucks are coming from there.

Does it matter where it's built though? All parts are built from the same process. A fat Mexican bolting down your seats isn't any better or worse than a fat Texan doing it.

It wasn't a PRO shown in Canada, it was a TRD Sport.

FWIW, I recently picked up a 2015 DCSB via the Costco auto buying program and it was heavily discounted. To your point, though, that's probably their "normal" price and not a price that reflects the impending demand for the 2016s.

Yes, "normal" is around $1500 to $2000 below MSRP after dealer fees. Which is about where Costco usually runs (there isn't actually a Costco price for the whole country as Costco may end up with slightly different pricing with different dealers in various regions). And people in the right region looking at the right truck might do better than that themselves without help from Costco.
