Seems like I am discovering new things about my tacoma every other day. Like the other day I found out toyota used Drum brakes on rear and today I found out that I have minor rust around the inside of the wheel and rear Drum brakes. I washed my truck today for the first time and cleaned the rust as best as I possibly could. But is it normal for 10 days old Tacoma to have rust on inside of wheels and Drums ?

Btw I finally reached 400miles just few min ago also I took some pics.

I knew someone would make a commend about that LOL. Its the first night that snowed here in Fort Carson and it was funny looking at peoples cars outside.

Referring to the Civic, do you get the grinding sound when shifting from 2nd to 3rd ?

Yes I did, It would just come out of 3rd gear itself. Honda fixed it the first month I had the vehicle in Jan 2008. I wish I could affoard two vehicles, I kinda miss it. To be honest, I was out there to buy a 2010 CIVIC SI but instead I brought back 2010 Tacoma home.

There are new Corvettes on the Chevy lot I work at that have surface rust on the rotors. I wouldn't worry about it, but if you think it might be more serious, point it out to the dealer. At least you will have peace of mind. Nice truck BTW!

If you look at the window sticker I think its funny that ***full tank of gas*** is standard equipment, and it gets six (count em) six astericks!

Well, with the way some guys are obsessed with their cars around here, I wouldn't be suprised if it was....you know what.

If it was rainy, or snowy, yea its normal. if you leave your car or truck sit outside in the rain and check it like a day or two later, the rotors will have rust on them. Its normal, i wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks a bunch that kinda gives me a relief. I had my CIVIC Si for less then two years and all four disc brakes got rusted pretty bad at the point where I stopped caring about them. And in those two years I drove 6200 miles only, mostly on-post at Fort Carson, CO (LOTS OF SNOW) and because I was deployed for 15 months. But I kept that car really clean, washed every Friday. While I was deployed the Army stored the car indoor air cooled storage. Still the rust found its way around all four Disc brakes.

Btw when Toyota sells new cars, do they apply some kind of coating on body to protect against rust ? And how long is it good for. The sales person wasnt able to give me a positive answer and said he assume they would.

Yeah, rust on brake discs and drums is perfectly normal. Don't worry, it's only very light surface rust and it will disappear the first time you drive it and touch the brake pedal.

However, rust on the inside of your wheels? That must not be what you really meant. Your wheels are aluminum and won't rust.

Did anyone else catch the /Normal to have a little RUSH/ header of this thread.

I just passed 500 miles on mine today so I'm still feeling it as well.

We drive the same truck. Great color choice!
