Yes, the gen 4 3s-gte is a great engine. I actually imported my Altezza instead of buying a is300 because it came with the amazing 5th gen 3s-ge blacktop. 210 hp from a 2 liter. Amazing engines.

I thought about doing a low boost setup on my corolla, but it came to either that, or start with a car that actually comes with what I want and go from there. No.mayter what that corolla would never be rwd, and it would never have an independent rear suspension, or a lot of other things that Altezza has that I love. Never the less, I decided to part the corolla and go the JDM route. If we get some frequent meets on the go I might bring that instead sometime.

Anyone have any advice for me on wheels?

I currently have four 265/70r17 Duratracs on 17x9 RTX Blast rims, backspace and offset unknown. They are mounted with 1.25" Spidertrax spacers. The spacers bring them out more than mechanically necessary, but the rims definitely won't fit without a spacer. The factory spare is not worn, but it won't hold air, and is not the size of the other four wheels. All five wheels have TPMS. I also have four factory alloy sport rims painted black.

    IMG_4894_zpsqdb2wkty_7dffde89ff848cd6b2f620939483241336443433.jpg

I want to run five matching full size wheels, and I definitely do not want to risk running without a spare. I did not want to commit to investing in five new wheels at least until I have some trail miles behind me, I don't want to make a decision I'll regret, but here I am. Seems to be happening a lot!

I have two decisions to make. What size tires to run, and what rims to mount them on. I want to get away from spacers.

Tire size: As it stands, I think I want to run 255/75r17s. I am sure those tires will require some lifting, but I think I can probably take care of that by adjusting the 5100s that I'll install when the order comes through. Anyone think I'm missing something here? My bumper is stock.

    Rims:

Option 1: try to pick up one additional RTX rim (I like the look, expect for the faux beadlock), The RTX are a little wide for 255s, I think 8" is the max recommended width. The factory rims would be free to mount winter tires for the daily commute through Halifax rush hour during the winter.

Option 2: I could buy and paint another factory 17" alloy rim, and sell the RTX rims.

Option 3: Anyone have any idea where I should look for rims locally? I am very new to the vehicle modding business!

Any feedback appreciated, but don't hold me to anything!

Lower the spare and inspect the rim and the bead. The tire could be just rotted and you need a new one, or the rim could have a hole rusted into it, or the lip of the rim has bubbled and pushing the bead away making a small gap. Get out the soap and water start looking for a leak!

When it comes to spare tires..
If you have 265 70 17's on it, and your spare is.. say.. 245 75 16 (like mine) You would do okay getting yourself out of the trail, obviously not best case, but it could work. If your truck is the sport and has an LSD then I suggest you put it in the front to avoid burning out the clutch packs. My truck has open diffs front and rear so I dont have to worrry about this. I did pick up a used 285 75 16 the other day to avoid head aches. But stock would do in a pinch, its not like you're turning 37's and your spare is a 31.

I imagine that the 255 75 17 is about 33 inches tall eh? You'll definitely need the lift for those! I would want a narrower rim for those. Id rather have a rim thats too narrow than too wide. A wide rim will increase your chances of de-beading.

The beadlock thing you could just paint the "bolts" black and it'll hide it.

If it were me, I would sell the RTX's and buy Toyota steelies for the winter!

255 fit on almost any setup without rubbing, but I wouldn't put them on a 9" rim

Thanks Mitch, this is pretty much as I expected.

I have the LSD, but am really more worried about the possiblity of having to drive out of the woods on a donut when I already blew a 10 ply sidewall to get there. The 255/75r17 is only 32", but I know that still requires a bit of lift. I am hoping the 5100s will do that job until I am in a position to do a full suspension upgrade.

I'm looking for a 5th stock rim now, if it works out I'll paint or powder coat 5 stock rims for new tires and sell the four wheels I'm currently running.

My only worry is rubbing the front fender flare. Current wheel is pretty close when flexed, but even an inch should make the difference.

I work at the 5th Canadian Division (Army) Headquarters, which is stuck in with the Navy at HMC Dockyard. I do office work at that job, not very interesting. Evenings and weekends though, I work with the Artillery in Bayer's Lake. Now that is fun!

I have seen another black DCSB Sport around home in Dartmouth. It has factory wheels, but otherwise looks that same as mine, now that I unmasked my lights and removed the tonneau - which I am preparing to sell by the way.

Hopefully we'll meet up soon though!
