Yep, exactly. Tire weight matters a lot and often an E is heavier than a C or sometimes a D. I agree six pounds is significant. In the particular case of the KO D and KO2 E that was being referred to the difference was only 1 lb.

So if you care about efficiency then watch your tire weight for sure - and look up the weight of the tire rather than assuming E is always heavier or C or D.

A week ago I decided to go ahead and be the test subject running the 34x10.5 size. I took off my front mud flaps and had them mount them up. Discount Tire took care of me beating their competitions price as always.

My suspension set up for reference is:
Full OME Kit with 887 coils up front and Dakar leaf pack in the rear. (I forgot the nomenclature of the struts, they are the nitrosport street variant)

    Before the tires
Stock sport Duelers on Method Mesh rims.

    Measurements were
    Tire height (mounted)28.75"
Front Height (Ground to wheel well)36.5"
    Height between tire and fender-7.5"

Rear Height with Campershell (Ground to wheel well)38.25"
    Height between tire and fender-9.25"

    After the tires

    20150415_151848.jpg
    20150415_204915.jpg

    Measurements are
    Tire height (mounted)32"
Front Height (Ground to wheel well)37.75"
    Height between tire and fender-6"

Rear Height with Campershell (Ground to wheel well)40"
    Height between tire and fender-8.25"

    After Thoughts
I haven't put a full tank of gas through yet so I do not know the difference in mileage, I will post after my next fill up. Tires are no more noisy than the stock tires after they got a little chewed up on the trails. You can hear them if your listening, but nowhere near as loud as mud terrains.

I think that they have really helped the appearance and feel of the truck.

I do have slight rubbing on the inner fender liner if the wheels are more than 3/4 of the way turned and I hit a bump. Very slight. I will be using a heat gun and pushing them in when I get a chance and I am sure that will fix it.

(P.S. Sorry about the pictures being sideways, I have rotated them on my computer before uploading them but it doesn't seem to make a difference on the site, if a moderator wants to help out, please feel free)

I went with the duratracs because of the lighter weight and I see a 1.5 mpg drop over the last 2 fill ups, that doesn't take into account that the tires are larger so it's actually a little less of a drop since I go farther than my odo says...

I can definitely feel it, but I don't mash on it like a race truck. Speedo is now off ~the first digit of how fast you're going (ie 10mph= ~1mph faster /60mph=~6mph faster)

Strange, I emailed them and they said:

"Thank you for your email and your interest in the new BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tire in an LT265/70R16/C-D load range or an LT265/75R16/C-D load range tires. We only show that the new BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tire in size LT265/75R16 will be available in the E or 10 ply sidewall. This size and load range should be available, later this year, however, tire size LT265/70R16, we do not have an exact date of when it will be available. It looks like, it will have a D load range. You are welcome to check back with us periodically."

Granted, this was a couple months ago and things may have changed. I'll probably go ahead and get 265/70/16 in E once available. I've thought a lot about the 265/75 but I still drive a lot of miles and don't want to reduce mpg that much. Hopefully in a few years it won't be a DD and I can have some fun with it.

The tire height is 32" mounted... This doesn't sound right, do you have better pictures..? I really want to replace my 285/75 R16 and step up to the 34" x 10.50 R17. When you imput the info into the tire calculator it reads 34.03" tall. (https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=285-75r16-34-10.5r17)

So the tire calculator is just telling you what the nominal size for a tire would be. The tire is not necessarily that size. The KO2 34x10.5R17 has an unloaded diameter of 33.5 if you check the specifications from BFG on their web site.

Next, if you measure the height of the tire under load it will be less because the tire deforms under load of course. By how much? Well there is a specification for that, either the "normal loaded radius" or the "loaded section height". Unfortunately those specs are nearly impossible to find. However an inch of deflection is very typical on the loaded side of the tire. And 1.5" is not at all unreasonable. Or maybe throw 0.5" of measurement error in. Either way, you'd expect between 32 and 32.5 starting with a unloaded 33.5 diameter.

This could be said for any tire then. By this logic, a 35" tire measures 33".
