I'm actually going to guess no, because he most likely got the new leaf packs when they did the frame. They came out with new leaf pack in 2012 and started putting them on hte 2012+ which is why they are not part of the recall.

So far everything I have seen the other thing they changed was adding another spring retainer clip that will prevent a broken leaf from rotating into the fuel tank.

Walked into the dealership this morning after finding out both sides of my trucks leafs were broken. I told the lady it will not pass inspection and mine is due next month. She said the remedy is a new 4 leaf pack. She put me in a brand new trd tundra for a rental while they do the springs and frame inspection. She said the wait on springs is 2-3 months.

Can you elaborate? Are you under warranty or is the dealer going forward with the recall remedy on his own terms? Just seems weird to me that with no "official" remedy you got that treatment. Jealous.

Also, if the wait is 2-3 months then that would make our assumption about them stocking up parts the past few months incorrect. Bummer.

My truck is an 08 so no it is not under warranty. I went in there after getting my oil changed at a local shop where they let me know both sides springs were broken. I wasn't too happy especially knowing it won't pass inspection next month with broken springs. So I headed over to the local dealership thinking it would be a fight to get something out of them. I walked into service and asked the lady what she knew about the leaf spring recall. She said they're replacing old springs with a new 4 leaf pack but the wait time on parts is around 2 months. She said she could put me in a rental tundra for the time being. I didn't argue. Very good dealership to work with.

Tacomaprime, how do the new springs look? I had my frame replaced and have new leaf springs too. My springs are very flat are yours?

I recently put Bilstein 5100's on my '09, then took it to the dealer for alignment & spring inspection. I didn't see any cracks when I changed the shocks & they didn't either. Mine was built in July '08 & purchased in Sept '08, so it may not fall in this recall.

If not, and the springs continue to be OK, I'll probably put some add-a-leafs on it at some point. If they crack I'll get the Toytec springs.

I sure don't understand this passage from the notice:

    " . . . recalling certain model year 2005-2011 . . . vehicles manufactured September 14, 2009, to October 11, 2010 . . . "

Don't the people writing this stuff even read it? Yeah a 2011 would be built in late 2010, but, How the hell does a 2005, 06, 07, '08, or '09 truck get manufactured after Sept 14, 2009?

I could be wrong, but I think the key wording is the word 'and' after Pre-Runner.

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2005-2011 Toyota Tacoma Pre-Runner and 4x4 vehicles manufactured September 14, 2009, to October 11, 2010. In the affected vehicles, one of the leaf springs may fracture due to stress or corrosion. While being driven, the broken leaf could move out of position and contact surrounding components including the fuel tank, possibly puncturing the tank and causing a fuel leak.

Ah yes! Very poor phrasing there. It's ambiguous in the way it lumps the models/years together.

So now I believe believe it should maybe say:

    ". . . recalling certain model year 2005-2011 Pre-Runner vehicles, and Toyota Tacoma 4x4 vehicles manufactured September 14, 2009, to October 11, 2010."

Evidently the Prerunners & 4X4's did not always share the same rear springs?

So...I called corporate to see if there was an eta, and there wasn't. I'm in a unique situation in that I'm leaving the country (military) soon, and have to get this done before I leave. They recommended having the dealer install some on my own dime, keep the receipts, and get reimbursed.

Does that seem like a good idea? If so, what leaf springs should I order? What I don't want to happen is that the remedy springs are better than what I install now.

    Any advice?

Are any of your springs broken right now? If so they will take care of you right away. My truck had the new springs installed and the CRC coating on the frame done in less than a week. The dealership gave me a rental for that week I was without my truck.

None of them are broken. Flat as hell, but not broken. It's really just a function of time for me, and the best course of action.

They are tight lipped to a fault about this. Rumors are some time in June to some time in July, but I'm not holding my breath.

Mine are giving out. I put 600# of gravel in the bed for about 5 miles on smooth roads, and now the left rear seems to have sagged a bit more.

So my 2009 4x4 just snapped a rear leaf spring yesterday while driving down the highway with no load in the back. According to my VIN my truck is NOT under the recall. I've called Gateway Toyota today and I'm driving down to Edmonton right away because the foreman wants to take some pics and open up a case on my truck with Toyota Canada. Hopefully this works out in my favour :)

After my visit to the dealerships I have been told that the spring will be replaced with no charge. Just waiting on parts to show up and they will call me to bring my truck in. In the meantime they removed the broken leaf so it does not swing around while driving and cause more damage

I just got off the phone with Toyota customer service (corporate) and spike to a customer service agent who (like everyone) has no updates and just sees that it is still in the preliminary stage of the recall, so I asked to be escalated to someone who is actually in the loop regarding this recall and was transferred to a gentleman who told me that just this morning he got out of a meeting where they were informed that the 2nd letter for the remedy will be sent "mid-summer." I know people have said June July and summer but I believe this is the first official news about it being mid summer. Knowing toyota I'm sure it's gonna be later rather than soon, so I expect it will be August before dealerships allow anyone to make appointments for the remedy. Although MUCH longer than anyone would have expected, it's at least good to get an official update.
