Maybe I missed it somewhere when reading this thread, but is there a chance that side-to-side movement of the rear wheel strap against the steel tire bracket will cause the strap to cut & fail? I use a hitch rack pictured below to transport my bike, and I know my bikes jostle around a fair amount during transportation. This movement causes the straps to experience a side-to-side rocking load. I'll say that I'm not trying to defeat your design, but possibly bring a potential issue to light so it can be avoided (if, in fact, it is an issue :)).

Definitely a good point. The strap that I chose is really tough, so I don't think that will be an issue.

In addition, as long as the strap is used properly, it will force the tire into the tray, and eliminate side to side movement of the rear tire.

Of course, real world use is the only way to prove my theory. So far, so good on my end.

Good stuff! I figured it was something that you thought of, but felt like it was worth mentioning (from one fabricator/inventor to another).

I've had some woven nylon ratchet straps cut on pieces of metal that were slightly "sharp" by my observation.

I'm just about done building this little beauty, so I can get back to focusing on this bike mount:

I was able to do some testing driving up into the woods this weekend.

There is some side to side movement. I think it's an acceptable level, even on the roughest dirt roads, but I'm making one more tweak to try to lessen it.

    Here be some pic's

Plenty of room around the fuel door.

That one is for 15mm thru axle. It's generic, I got it off eBay a couple years ago.

The fourth prototype is on the truck and this one is a winner.

Production pieces will be cut early next week, and ready for sale by the end of the week.

Chime in if you want one so I have an idea of how many to make in the first run.

Price will be $115 without a fork mount, or $135 with a fork mount (plus shipping)

It would come with a mount for standard 9mm quick release.

If demand for 15mm and 20mm thru axle mounts comes up, that can be an option as well.

The prototype phase is done, and the first production pieces are cut and formed. They head to powder coat on Wednesday, and should be ready to ship by Saturday.
