I understand that but when it gets hot outside, the air it's taking in is the same temperature as it is outside lol

That's not going to do much. The CAI box isn't sealed so there's not going to be any vacuum to pull air through there..

Factory cruise added, wood storage box in bed, wood center console/armrest, charcoal air filter delete.
It is a lot cooler but that hose is going to do little if anything to get that cooler air to the intake.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
I opened mine and wrote inside my name and Vin for the truck. Also did the hose clamp mod.

A true CAI (for any vehicle) will draw ambient air. It does not mean the filter is 'outside', but that the intake point is not drawing underhood air.

It will always be hotter under hood than ambient. The last CAI I installed (on a car) I measured the intake air and the underhood air with two digital devices simultaneously with an ambient of 93*. The split was around 35* while driving, and dropped to 20* at idle (heat soak, less volume). The delta is even greater in winter of course.

Each 10* in intake temp reduction = ~ 1hp. So the whole CAI concept really isn't a gimmick.

However........... Most CAIs really aren't. Most just move stuff around, add some bling and noise, and maybe appear that they'd provide cooler air. A true CAI has to have the intake located in either a negative pressure area outside the bay (like firewall mounted cowl induction) or some type of direct 'ram' air. Which, as a side bar, doesn't really 'ram' anything. But it can provide ambient air.

And too many proclaimed CAIs put a crappy filter in an improper place, one that can injest water, as you suggest.

I'm a fan of CAIs. Done right. Which most packages are not.

Exactly but 34° with that 3hp, that's not a difference you will notice. In the colder months, definitely better, everything performs better with colder denser air.

My other gripe with most "cold air" systems is that they lengthen the tunnel the air has to travel to reach the throttle body, thus reducing throttle response which is annoying because that's easily noticeable vs a 3hp gain which is really about 2 at pavement (or dirt ;))

Maybe I missed this, but how do you have a fog light switch with an indicator light on it? Is this a 2012+ thing?

Total cost for mounting brackets for shovel and hi lift is around $10. I just used three bolts to mount the Hi Lift to and the shovel I just use two small "L" brackets (around $2-3 total) and bolted them to 1 5/8 cone nuts I got at Home Depot. I'll get some better pics today.

With the stock intake, I've noticed the intake temps will be close to ambient when driving a steady 30+ mph, but they climb rather quickly when idle/stop & go traffic.

I had put a "ram air" hood on one of my cars, which helped a little. The factory "ram air" was useless. Claimed to add 5hp.

I actually can't answer that. The fogs were in the truck when I got it, and they were added on. In fact, I have to rewire them to correct a problem where several days of sitting will kill the battery because some relay stays hot (live, and temp too!) all the time. But as far as the switch goes, yes, it works and illuminates. I have no idea if it's an OE piece or not, but it looks like it to me.

Hoping when I dig in that I find it's prewired for fogs, and some buffoon missed it.

It's an FJ part. they have the same switch face and an indicator light, but are a 6-pin harness instead of a 4-pin harness. Not overly complicated to swap in though. I put one in mine last month

Do you have to add / run new wires, or just move the existing wiring?
