I got 22.9 MPG for one of my tanks on a recent highway trip with my 2011 DCLB 4x4 V6. Granted, it was flat land and no stops or changes in speed whatsoever. I don't think 26 highway is out of the question for the new one.

I got 23 mpg going over I70 (Denver to Moab) in my gen 1, 3.4 liter. But my engine has no cajones.

Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
Ive been managing right at 23 in mine with 265/75. I got just over 24 a couple time when i first got it and it had 245's, but my commute is 20 miles with 3-5 stops depending on how i catch the lights and speed limits are 40-55 and i usually keep it within 2, and coast alot

Thank you for making my case for that the 4 cylinder will be direct injection. I have already explained the mysterious clues that are there for everyone's inspection.

I don't think the 4cyl will be changed at all nor do I see how I made that case... Can you clarify for me?

At the intro the Toyota guy said output numbers for the 4cyl will be the same. That suggests no change.

This will be the way Toyota boosts 4 cylinder mpg slong with 6 speed AT. MY 2017 at the latest. At the intro the Toyota guy also said he was personally VERY fond of the chrome grill. Get out of my grill, man.

I get it but it has already been stated by Toyota that the 1TR-FE remains unchanged and is the engine that will be carried over into the 3rd generation I4 models. Who said anything about the chrome grille? And as far as your grille, I'm just responding to your posts toward me. Not only that but you're making it seem as if I am proposing a new engine for the 4 cyl, which I am clarifying is not the case.

Chopper, it was just banter. You can get in my grill.
Chopper, my intent is to have useless banter to kill time while we wait for the release. Get in my grill.

My wild speculation goes like this. Per MY 2016 Dealer Reference Chart, all AC 4 cylinder variants say new model-6AT-2TR except one.

The 4×4 version of this variant says new model-5MT-2TR. Nowhere on the chart does it say 2TR-FE.

You see? There is what appears to be an inconsistency between what Toyota says and what this chart says. The 4×4 would be a carry over if it was a 2TR-FE.

The chart seems to be very specific, albeit labelled as tentative.

    You know what, TacoWoodeye?!

Interesting information you have there. Perhaps TR is just a shortening of TR-FE? Why would they lie about having not improving their engines?

    Yep.

Waiting to see the '16 Taco in person before I make a decision. But dang that thing is butt ugly, I have a hard time looking at. Mileage would have to blow my socks off to get over that face only a mother can love. I am interested in the SR model, assuming the whole front will be unpainted black plastic...that may help it.

I highly doubt mileage will be stellar, though.

Test drove the Chevy, I like it...bummer no manual trans available with the V6, that is a deal killer. Absolutely must have a manual trans.

I'm surprised they don't offer a manual? Don't they have an off road package?

Anyway I hope the 2016 grows on you and that you can afford to wait until you know which one is the right choice.

They have a manual in the 4 cylinder 2WD model. But not in the 4WD's. From what little I have found, the 4 banger isn't getting the mileage they claimed it was going to get.

They do have an basic offroad package, looks pretty lame though. I think the more aggressive package the ZR2 is coming this fall, not that it matters...no manual trans, plus I do my own suspension. What is available from the factory is always lackluster.

I can afford to wait, I have a a Tacoma and a SUV, new truck is just an addition to what I already have....I dunno, I am even considering getting either a Subaru Forester or a VW TDI Sportwagen for my general purpose run around/commuter vehicle. Seems kinda silly to have two trucks. Funny thing my wife is ok with having 2 trucks and is trying to talk me out of the lesbian wagons...I dunno, the Suby gets 30 mpg hwy, and the VW tdi 40+, hard not to look at those for a daily driver, and just keep the Tacoma as a weekender. The Suby is a bit more appealing than the VW since it is AWD, better ground clearance. Too bad Toyota doesn't make something similar...I guess that would be the Rav4, but no manual trans.
