The inside of the exhaust pipe on my '05 DC 4.0L is very black(like a bad carbon build up) and I just got back from a 1400 mile road trip and even the quarter panel above it is kinda getting black. What is causing this? The truck has 58k miles on it, so its still has warrenty should I have the dealer look at it? What kind of diagnose can I do to see where this problem is coming from?? I just changed the oil (5W30 Mobil1 full syn.) new air filter(toyota paper) Pleased help Im alittle worried. I don't really know the maintenancehistory of the truck since I bought it 2 months ago. Thanks guys :)

Dont worry about it. Soot builds up on the pipe from aggressive driving style. Or Semi aggressive. Not an issue. If something was going wrong, in most cases, the CEL would trip.

that was my first thought as it gets better gas mileage in the city than I was getting on the hwy, city 300 miles per tank hwy 230 to 240 miles per tank @ 70mph avg.
