You guys just made my morning. Looks like a permastudent with a MFA still in progress, after a decade in school, is going to be my next MLA. FML.

I couldn't even tell you who the NDP candidate is here (Vermilion-Lloydminster), haven't seen a single NDP sign anywhere.

The sign wars down here are downright brutal. If you check out any of the FB or other local groups there are dozens of complaints of signs in the wrong place and legal threats... blah blah blah. I've never seen so much anger during an election. I hope that some people know what they are voting for because all I see is anger at the PC's and loving for the NDP with very little explanation of what the NDP actually intend to do for us. I'd like to know what "change" they have in mind, because with all the additional schools, teachers, nurses, arts projects, and roads they are going to go forward with I see some seriously harsh taxes coming in and/or extreme deficits.

Our local NDP candidate answered that land rights are the most important issue in here constituency. Good answer. Too bad she followed up that comment with another blank statement, "we should have them." WTF does that even mean lol. I guess that's what happens when you have a student, with zero real world experience and I know her personally, running for office. She was also quoted as saying we need to tax profitable businesses more because they aren't hiring anyone or contributing to families LOL.

Vaguely. They have said there will be no cuts to education or healthcare.

The PC's budget had cuts coming to the top end of AHS and a freeze on new projects on the education side. Given that there were expansion and fresh projects in the pipeline I'm guessing the NDP intends to follow through with those projects. Again they haven't exactly given specifics as far as I can find other than one off's from random MLA's.

The PC's have had a guaranteed job for every nurse that graduates for several years now. It's not always full time, but every nurse gets hired somewhere. Part of the PC plan was to slow down the nursing programs and shut down the "hire every nurse" program while cutting out some of the office and desk staff in AHS. Given that the NDP has said no cuts to AHS I'm guessing they intend to keep this program in full swing and hire as many nurses as post secondary institutions can graduate.

Roads and Arts were brought up in the debates. The NDP wants to continue funding municipal projects at 100 percent of what was previously promised. PC's were going to keep the funding level but slow down the payment period. Arts funding has mostly to do with universities so other than the odd remark online I can't find much about what she and the NDP will do there, however given the support the NDP traditionally has drawn from those groups in Alberta I would expect additional spending there.

Honestly that's part of the problem with this election. None of the opposition parties has really latched onto specifics. There's been a few small promises but in general they are blank statements without a budget behind them. The government doesn't have a whole bunch of income sources for all of these promises, and if the NDP actually tries to follow through with them I think a PST and higher business tax won't even begin to cover the expense. All my opinion of course, but that's what I'm perceiving as a voter. That scares me a bit. Coupled with the large amount of young idealistic MLA's that the NDP might get in rural Alberta I'm getting a bit worried about what this new government might do to make things worse rather than better.

Alberta would be better off with a PST

Interesting. I like it, I didn't notice but did he say how they will divy up the new version of his child care benefit? I hope it sticks around fully for families under $150K. Childcare is so expensive we are debating if my wife should even go back to work in a year.

"Trudeau proposes to roll together and enrich two other existing benefits that are geared to income — the Canada child tax benefit and the national child benefit supplement — into a single, enriched benefit that would give families up to $6,400 annually for every child under six and up to $5,400 for children aged six to 17.

The benefit level would be tied to family income and would gradually disappear at higher income levels."

Yeah, I read it this time  but he doesn't say what constitutes a higher income level. I would of like to of known where the liberals would put that bar as far as childcare assistance.

As an aside it's sort of interesting to see the Liberals grab onto child care. Wasn't that one of the key points from the NDP in the last election?
