75w-90 gear oil to come in. I got mobile 1 synthetic. I believe in the synthetics as you can feel less friction in your drive train. Less friction also = going faster.

 

How's the turbo running lately?

 

Truck is running great with the old filter back on.
It was really hard to get some decent pics in my garage but these eagle eye turn signal lights turned out nice. I think I might add another pair for a little more brightness. What do you think?

 

I fixed that annoying exhaust leak too... it was just one loose bolt on the exhaust mani flange. And Josh, you are definitely going to want to toy around with the locations of both the MAF and the wastegate vacuum tap location. Just because I have a turbo in my truck doesn't mean I know everything lol. Experiment with stuff. Just today I hooked up the wastegate vac tap to the actual intake mani instead of the charge pipes and the truck runs even better despite the fact that I've read on numerous forums to run the wastegate line pre TB.

 

I don't think it's good for the wastegate to see vacuum, could damage the diaphragm. The wastegate isn't something you want failing...

I'm guessing the truck feels better because the engine is seeing more boost. If you were to put a boost gauge pre-TB (charge pipe) and another one post-TB (manifold), you'd likely see higher boost numbers on the gauge reading pre-TB than you would on the post-TB gauge. So by running the wastegate's signal hose post-TB, the wastegate is probably opening later, effectively causing you to run more boost.

 

I think the unregistered exhaust readings that the O2 sensor sees has more to do with the better performance. Boost doesn't mean anything until it gets passed the TB. The diaphragm is definetely getting used more, but I'll risk it for better performance.

 

The fenderwell lighting is sweet! You should do the rears too.....how much brighter, are they ok with just one? From the pics I think 2 would be better.......also do you know exactly what I need to do a front tundra brake swap or disc rears?

 

Definetely use two per side if you are already going to be under there... or one 9w bulb per side (I used 6w ones). They are pretty much impossible to see durring the day, so I was going to put some right in front of each tire on the outer portion of the plastic liner so that they actually shine on whoever is in my blind spot area. Don't want to go over 3w on those though... they'd be pretty blinding at night.

The exhaust gasses that were bypassing the O2 sensors when the wastegate opened are now being registered later in the powerband, therefor decreasing the overall inconsistencies in performance.

Makes a lot of sense to me.....Absolutely, the dump bypasses the o2 sensor reading screwing with the ecu, your wideband afr too, and affects engine performance. How does running the wg off of manifold affect this? Because it sees boost and vaccum?

I really think hooking the signal hose from the wastegate to the manifold is a bad idea. The wastegate isn't supposed to be exposed to vacuum, only boost, because vacuum can damage the diaphragm. Needs to be hooked to the charge pipe instead.

 

Does it put too much pressure on the diaphragm though? Because ultimately it is exposed to boost pressures as well. It may just close off the wg quicker? Or even compensate for the loss in the dump......Gio is stating it is indeed running better. The wideband reading would not change.

 

The pressure is fine. But when it's exposed to vacuum, the diaphragm gets sucked flat against the housing. The causes sharp folds to occur, which will eventually lead to the diaphragm cracking.

 

You definitely know more than me.......just trying to make the most informed decision on my own boost.

 

Not sure what you mean here. An open waste gate shouldn't affect the O2 sensor at all unless it has a leak which will cause it to suck in air (if it was a closed loop, a leaking WG will only at worse delay/limit boost).

O2 sensor does one think only, detect O2. As long as you are not introducing O2 from the atmosphere from a leak, exhausting gas pre O2 is fine.

 

There would be no other reason why closed loop part throttle boost would make the truck slightly sputter and have inconsistent power if all other variables are the same besides pre and post TB wastegate vac references. Part throttle boost with wastegate vac line on charge pipes (opened)= cruddy transition from closed to open loop. Part throttle boost with wastegate vac line on manifold (closed until full boost)= very smooth transition from closed to open loop. With a wastegate dump back into the exhaust there would be no change because there would be no simulated exhaust leak
