^ That last point is a really good one. While the manager has shown several of us that are full time and bring in sales the financials he would NEVER show a part time employee those numbers. It would cause a huge stink no matter how good or bad the dollar and cents were.

    yeah, I figured that.
they announced them at the employee meeting I went too. we have about 55 employees total. as far as the future, I doubt it since I don't care about getting benefits, I just want a paycheck that is enough to make me satisfied. (150 a week aint it). even if I get the full 27 that is $206 after taxes. that's crap.

It's good to show your employees rough numbers at general meetings, like what you make on a certain type of job on average, but showing profit and loss numbers just leaves part time employees hungry for more money or fearing for there jobs.

it don't help that a guy whos been with us 2.5 months makes $3 an hour more than me, or they gave everyone a bonus from the profit except me. I try to do as much as I can when im there, but a guy that just got a raise sat in the truck yesterday while I got sun baked runnin the gun. its got me ready to go where I can make money for myself.

You are young and in school and will soon be ready to move on. They understand this and therefore know there is no long term commitment on your end. They need to keep the guys who have been there and will continue to be there happy so that they will continue to stay with the company.

It comes down to retention and regardless of how hard you work and what you are capable of you will eventually outgrow the job and expect more because of your education and work experience. Basically they know they will probably never be able to pay you enough to keep you happy so why bother with raises and such or giving you more work to take from others.

Business is very complex and although there is a lot of favoritism that can occur, sometimes there are legitimate reasons for why certain decisions are made.

Basically if you want to do better where you're at, give them false hope, make friends with the long timers, and act as if its your plan to make working there a career. Also keep the talk about your education to minimum, this could be seen as a threat to those above you without an education. You have to play the game and think about things beyond the "hey that's not fair." A lot of things in a work environment don't make sense, they may never will. Understand the game, play the game, and when the time is right bail out and move on to the next.

Hey man I am a civil engineer and also have surveying experience so I help out the survey department when they need it. I was getting paid 12 an hour when I has working survey as an intern when I was still in school so I think that 10 bucks is pretty low. Not sure about other companies but we are extremely busy with survey work. I think the best bet is to try to get into a bigger company because that is where you will have plenty of work and better pay. I have worked at a small company and the money is just not there. Good luck.

Did he give bonuses to other part timers? In general companies in my field don't give bonuses to part time employees because of the potential for over time and other things. Instead we reward our P/T staff with things like the occasional free lunch, dinner, and even sometimes giftcards for meeting safety goals.

yeah, the 10 is getting ridiculous. And yeah, I just need to find the biggest survey company near atlanta

they gave me a 100buck bonus for Christmas. Other than that I'm the only part timer. There's really no potential reward at this point. They're not givin me hours despite how much I do.

So you did get a bonus. I know this isn't what you want to hear but most companies, other than Wal Mart lol, don't give bonuses to hourly part time employees. Especially those with seasonally fluctuating hours. It's nothing personal, but it's the way companies run. The salary and full time staff are the core that needs to be retained and ususally get the benefits.

Like I said earlier, if you want more it's time to keep an eye out for more. Just remember that if you're able to make it through school at least with a job like you already have it will set you up better for a job with someone else in the future.

If your a hard worker maybe the boss wants you to quit, once you graduate you could be in competition for his job.

Could be. The CEO is dying for me to be there when I graduate, and likes that I will already have experience.

You need to start looking for another job! I have worked for ppl where dedication and hard work seemed to be a thorn in their side, I could never figure them out. Your boss is clearly a dick. You will likely have him ask you to stay when you find something else, he will send empty promises your way... I have been through this and it never works out. Just keep quiet and look for something better. When it comes take it, but be selective, the grass is not always greener on the oher side of the fence, i found this out the hard way. Good luck!

You need to talk to the CEO then tell him/her you would really appreciate a raise to help pay for school. Or you could try to get them to pay for the training. Just don't sign any crazy contracts.

If you choose to stick out until you graduate, your attitude wlll need to be one of "I'm here to learn what i can, even if what i'm learning is how NOT to treat my future co-workers." You are getting an education there in experience, that a school can not teach. It sounds like they are using an old school management technique of treating you like crap to see if you really do have the drive, and determination to stick it out. That should have been rectified in a conversation, but alas it was not.

from experience - Yes, do look for another part-time/full time job in the time frame when you are not working. If you are not looking for another job, you are missing out on potential income. it is not worth sticking it out with a company that treats you so poorly. Be wary of your own approach, it cannot be one of entitlement.
Another option is to show up every day looking for additional work, but that kind of says "I accept the abuse." Do not undermine or compromise your own values for anyone is one lesson you will come away with.
