Yeah, I can see how people spend a lot. Heck, some shoot a new bow each year. I hope I don't feel the need to get a new bow after a year or two. Either way, still cheaper than truck mods :p.

Yea. Go look at broad heads and arrows. And then camo, and sent, and all that stuff. Packs..oh man. Good stuff.

Lol, trust me, I know :p. Just gotta buy quality items the first time so they last. When I was ordering the bow, Cory says "well, I can put together something cheap for you. It'll shoot straight, kill, and do everything you want but you will upgrade everything down the road. Just do it right the first time and get quality accessories that transfer bow to bow". I just laughed and thought of how the mentality is the same with our trucks.

I have tons of multicam so Ill just rock that for hunts. Worked great in Afghanistan. I still need to start practicing calling as well. I have a book on elk ecology to buy and read through. Lots to get done and very little time .

Deciding what route I want to go for a pack. My current backpack is holding pretty strong but I would prefer a pack with better load securing. It doesn't cinch as tight as I would like. I'd prefer to get on close to july so I can get used to it befroe. I don't have a security deposit for the new place so if I get my full deposit back I might dump that straight into a pack to get it broke in and fitted right. As of now, if I get a tag and somehow get an elk, Ill be packing it out myself. Gonna be a bitch with a shoddy pack.

I did shoot the bow tonight. Just a few shots at close distance to check the draw. Ill probably head out tomorrow despite the rain to get the sight set up then do a trail run to wear Ash out. I was a bit disappointed in him today. We did a short 2 mile jog and he was falling behind. Lazy pooches man.

lol, cost can go either way...
I've been shooting the same old Parker Stealth Hunter for years now. I finally replaced the string over this winter as it started to unravel in places last season. I'm comfortable with the bow and it shoots just fine. I've put lots of meat on the table with it.

Walmart for camo pants and shirts and some of the fleeces are pretty nice too. Save a lot of cash that way...don't be sucked in to the "scent blocker" bullshit, man in the woods stinks period.

Biggest expense to date has been the pop-up blind, which is nice, but I'm not a stand still kind of guy so i rarely use it and have never made a kill from it :p Turkey season was one of the most expensive seasons I have ever had with the damn decoys and stuff.

Packs are personal preference for sure, mine is small, has a water bladder, and will expand out to carry my extra clothing as it gets warmer out. I've never needed anything large for a pack.

I'm at the point where the only thing I buy now is new boots and shafts. I do my own fletching cause I'm ocd that way.

Yeah, I figured it was dependent on what you want. Kinda sounds like fly fishing. I spend very little but some of my friends drop some coin on gear they don't need.

Well my boss is being awesome and is going to hook me up with his older arrows, a set of almost new binos, and a hunting pack for cheap. I may pass on the pack because it's an internal frame. I am an external frame kinda guy but I'll be loading it up with a comfortable 45-50lbs this weekend and seeing how I like it. He also has some of the books I want so I'll be borrowing those too.

Something to consider, arrows are matched to the bow by draw length and draw weight and grain point.
The spine rigidity will vary depending on these factors. Shooting with the wrong arrow can really screw with your accuracy. And when you change to the correct arrow, the learning curve begins again.

Have you had the bow fitted to your draw length yet? I would go to a good indoor range and usually there is someone there who will help/observe and adjust the draw length and set the weight so you can get to the actual target practice. Jax Mercantile here in FoCo is a great place for this if you come down here.

Yea you really should get your draw string matched to you and arrows to fit as well.

Are you using a finger pad or mechanical release too?

Btw. Tim in powell used to operate a hunting store. We can help you set your bow up I'm sure. My dad did it for years.

The draw length currently is set up the same as my boss at 28''. That's the mathematical number I got from using my wing span. It looks and feels good but I am limiting my shooting until I can go to the local archery club. Hopefully this sunday. They should be able to get me going on the right track. I don't want to develop bad habits.

My bosses draw is 28''. I got a set of "cheapo" arrows with the bow since I wasn't sure when I could make a trip to Cheyenne or FoCo to purchase some. The arrows from my boss were free and pretty beat up. They will be good for shooting stumps and messing around. The broad heads will cost money but I am not buying anything until I have the bow set right. Those will work but they are for a thicker diameter arrow and I might be looking at smaller diameter like my boss is. I might actually be able to shoot at work some today and the managers there are pretty big into bow hunting. I would imagine they could double check everything and give me some pointers on form too.

I am also shooting with a mechanical release.

Don't buy broad heads unless your gonna hunt. And I kinda doubt you drew any tags as I kinda suspect you didn't put in for any archery.

Just get practice field tips for now. Get better with it. Then when you decide to get a general tag for deer or something, get broad heads and practice with them as the weight will be different on them. Usually use 2-3 for target practice and save 2 for hunting.

I did put in for archery only on one. I think that's area 37 for elk up near Sheridan. I've talked with a few friends and I am likely to change my areas and hunt with them regardless if we both get drawn. If I waited I would have been able to do a party with them and had better chances. I got the bow for hunting, not for targets and such. Just so happens it will be a fun past time in the summer when I am stuck at work on the weekends. If I don't draw then I will just get an over the counter left over license.

Sweet! 37 is right where we used to hunt. We did 40 for a long time then switched to I think to 37...or maybe it was 41? I don't remember. Haven't been in years sadly :pout: it's the best way to hunt though. Just hike around all day. See so,e beautiful country.

Yep, I am looking to change areas closer to Laramie though. I doubt I will be able to take a week off to go hunt. Well, I could, not sure it would be in my best interest. It sucks that CWD is so prevalent down here.

Just curious on how much actual lift you are running? And how much did you have to trim your fenders? Any up close shots?

If I had to guess about 2.5 up front. I had to take ~1.75 out of the front fenders. What close ups do you want? Of the cut?
