My stepmoms vehicle keeps getting severly keyed at her work. This has happened several times now. My dad told me today that it happened again. This is really pissing me off because my dad has already spent money multiple times repainting the whole side of the truck. I told him today he should really get a dash cam. I'm also tempted to go sit there on my day off and stake it out. Its obviously probably somebody she works with. Any ideas?

There are dash cams that function as parking cams with motion-activated recording, battery rundown protection, etc. Does your stepmom's vehicle have power to the 12V socket while the key is out of the ignition?

Does her work parking lot have security cameras?

I have no idea about the power when the keys out of the ignition. Its a hospital, and a very busy parking lot so a motion camera would catch a lot. I dont think theres security cameras because my parents would have pursued that. i would gladly hide inside the truck, park nearby etc. Problem is being there on the right day, at the right time. Fat chance.....

Shift work? Same time of day occurrences? Public access in lot? Other vehicles being keyed? Scandalous love affairs? If using a dash cam put it in a vehicle that is parked facing her car. Collude with a co-worker. Don't hide in her truck. If you spend a day hiding in her truck, then the terrorists have won.

She probably needs to quit pissing the same person off at work, or someone resents her for whatever reason (s). Anyway, good luck catching them. If it were me I wouldn't fix it again till the culprit is caught. They probably get their rocks off every time the paint is repaired.

She's being targeted for a reason. What is the reason? That is what I would investigate first.

Get one of those flamethrowers that they use in South Africa and tinker it to stop car keyers.

    That sucks, OP.

Just curious, is she a bad parker? I know some will resort to keying people's cars if they continuously park over the line.

I swear I saw something about the South Africa thing on Dateline or 20/20 15-20 years ago. I was an impressionable young person back then.
