Need some advice. Pup started limping last night before bed and today we noticed a cut in his paw...Or more like a crack/sliver along his paw so there is a little flap just hanging there.

would cleaning it, putting aquaphor on it, then wrapping it be the best option for him? I only mentioned aquaphor because I have a tub of it. I've also read about bag balm and udderly smooth.

Definitely clean it and if he'll tolerate it, wrap it. I'd do the bag balm before the aquaphor. If it's a clean cut, I think cleaning and covering it is the best thing. and try to keep him off of it as much as possible a day or two.

Clean the pad but don't put anything on it-let him lick it. Licking can be annoying to you but your pup's licking keeps things clean.

Monitor the cut and make sure it's not getting infected-clean it as needed.

WOW! Jax is big already, looking good!

Good luck on your Sr. Hunt Test Don! Then Master Hunter of course :)

Every year hunting phez in SD flappers are the number 1 injury to dogs I see, usually from barbed wire. Some carry a full vet kit including staplers, etc. But pretty much everyone I know carries at least superglue and EMT Gel for the smaller flappers.

You want to catch it as soon as possible, the flap will start to dry and shrink if you don't. Wash it well with a squirt bottle and fresh clean water. Then put a little EMT gel under the skin. Wipe it off pushing the skin flap down where it belongs. It doesn't have to be totally dry superglue will cure even with a little moisture. Put the superglue on top of the edges of the skin. You don't want it under the flap, just on the top edges. Once the superglue has dried wrap the wound, and now is the hard part. Every dog I know will always try to tear the bandage off. For paws dog boots like they use for hunting in cactus country work well. On the chest and legs you can use a kids T-shirt with the dogs head through the head hole and legs through the arm holes and tape it all down to the hair, the bottom you can bunch up and tie off. Of course there is always the cone of shame.... But if anyone tells you it is the cone of shame just tell them it is a HiTech scent concentrator ;) BTW we all are big fans of EMT Gel for the dogs, it is great stuff and really speeds up the healing much faster than anything I've ever seen. Which is important if your only hunting one dog on a trip far from home burning vacation time.

Here's my 'kids' doing dog things. Daisy is the gold shepard mutt, Apollo is the white pitt mutt. My wife and I rescued them both from a local no-kill shelter.
