How strong are bull bars

I am thinking about getting a westin bull bar and im wodering how strong a bull bar is? like if anyone has hit anything with it. i want it to stand up to a deer but dont want to buy a bumper.

 

I have one on my Tacoma. I doubt it will stand up to hitting a deer. THe only thing I have used it for was to push my sisters Camry out of the snow... As long as you are easy, it will not move, but a hard impact will bend it..

 

they are the same as tube steps. not strong and completely stupid haha
but really they aren't gona protect anything, you could get a nice steel tube light bar fabbed up and make it stronger...

 

A bull bar is not going to protect against anything. I like mine, but it is there for looks only, and to hold some offroad lights. If you want real protection you probably need an aftermarket bumper / brushguard.

 

why would you even consider one?

 

diffently dosnt hold up to a deer i've learned from exp.

 

if its anything like a brushgaurd it wont even hold up to minor offroading.....ive knocked the brackets off my brushgaurd 2 times in about a year.....

 

Why would anyone consider a black truck. I hate black trucks. My statement makes as much sense as yours.

I hit a medium size deer at 40+mph, the bullbar was pushed in to the bumper causing the bumper to be pushed in but it was fixable, the bullbar just pivoted on it's mounts and did not bend or have any damage, I still have it on my truck. And I also rear ended a friends rubicon and the skid plate on the bullbar hit the tow hook denting the skid plate, but that thing is solid!
So I'd say that these things are strong and hold their own IMO

 

Wait a minute aren't they called BULL bars because they were designed to protect the front of a vehicle if an animal like a bull was in the road? Looks like they could stand up to a deer... but it only covers a small part of the front end. your headlights, fog lights, and grill would probably be fucked.

 

cause they seem to be much cheaper then a full bumper and i dont need much protection just a lil extra is all im looking for

 

if you want REAL protection get a REAL bumper....coming from a guy who has a brushgaurd....your not gonna get what you want with a bull bar....

I didnt think I needed to elaborate on questioning why anyone would consider purchasing a bull bar... Plain and simple bull bars are a waste of resources, both finacially and physically. Most are made over seas by under paid workers made of inferior materials. They are made striclty for asthetics, and quite frankly are not very asthetic! Why would you spend money on something that looks awful and is not built to withstand its stated purposes? enough said.

 

And exactly how are your wheels, grill, and headlight covers any different? They serve no purpose and are purely aesthetic, thus a complete waste of resources both physically and financially. The bottom line is different people like different things and we all do stuff to our trucks that makes no sense financially. Just because you don't like it doesn't make it a bad idea for someone else.

 

i have a black westin bull bar and its been able to withstand the abuse i put it through..a garage..a camrys back end.. and a few bushes..it's not solid like an ARB or All Pro bumper mind you..but its not too bad of an accessory

 

They were originally made for ranchers to push bulls, not hit them.
