Dumbest thing I did with mine: locked myself out... thrice (3x). This is my first vehicle with manual locks so I was still adjusting to locking the door manually without a remote. Eventually i got used to always locking the door from the inside before closing it. Well I was late to a job site, got out of the car real quick, didn't even realized i left my keys in there and of course locked it. Didn't find out I did that until it was break time when i went to my truck to get my lunch box. The 2nd time it happened, I was just getting some plans out of the cab and tossed my keys on the bench seat while I was looking for the plans. When I finally found the plans, in my hurry, I locked the door and slammed it shut with the keys still inside. I found out the keys were in the truck during lunch time along with my lunch box... Luckily my rear sliding window was open and I was able to grab the keys with some tie-wire. The third time it happened was similar to the first. Very frustrating... After that I decided from now on, I will manually lock the door from the outside WITH MY KEYS. Since then, I haven't locked myself out for awhile. I may have just jinxed myself, but that's OK, I gladly pay for my AAA membership :]

My experience is not Tacoma related but is mechanical related. I was an Aerospace groundsupport equipment (AGE) tech in the Air Force. A few weeks after arriving from tech school as an FNG I was given my first repair job. The task was to reinstall a radiator for a Detroit Diesel 4-71 which had had a crack welded. Easy job or so I thought. Well I got it done and things where busy so it did not get checked by an NCO till the next day. So I come in and all the coolant had drained out via an open drain cock. Our SNCO looked it over and he simply said "somebody is a fucking idiot" (that was his way to say that you had let him down) lol I was so embarrassed but I learned from it.

Since that day I have never missed an important detail in a task. Not say that something simple like a funny sound has not momentarily stumped that happens to everyone lol.

I'm sheet metal. I hated painting your guys' equipment when I worked at corrosion. What a pain in the ass. Did you cross train or get out?

I have been out since 2006. Honestly I liked the job being a jack of all trades and all and the flight line driving part I liked. Lot of people that washout of a higher skill school get put in AGE for some reason. Had many people who where in EOD and washed. So those types are bitter I guess. If I'd have stayed in I'd have stuck with AGE I sorta liked being a dirty under appreciated grease monkey at least then when pilots and crew chiefs thanked you you knew that they really meant it.

Where I was stationed in Germany the corrosion was contracted we did the prep work (shittyist thing I have ever done) and some German company did the painting. By contracted I mean only the minor stuff aircraft where done in house. Course I'm talking 10~14 years ago as well I'm sure things have changed since then. I wish I'd have been in the Vietnam era Air Force crazy as that may sound those where the good old days.

No air power without ground power.

I knew a few fabricators in my day lol all drunks not like I wasnt .

Mine dumbest moment...sort of...is they typical locking the keys inside. I was rushing around trying to get back to a job site and got out of my truck and and locked my drivers side door. Ran into Home Depot to pick up something really fast, ran back out to my truck and opened my passenger side door, threw in the stuff and hit the lock button. Walked over to the drivers side and realized my passenger side wasn't locked when I went inside and noticed my keys still in the ignition.

Of course, when I bought the truck the saleslady told me she only had one key and the previous owner never turned in the other. She advised me to get a key made and I swore to her and myself I would....naturally, I never did. So here I am stuck in the parking lot i've got a lock smith on the way and I call the homeowner back and tell her I may not be back. Then it occurs to me I can use my antenna to break in through the back glass, so I finagle it and get in and unlock the door, call the locksmith back and told him I got it.

Heres the dumb part; I head straight over the next day to Lowe's to have a key made for my truck. I get the key made it works the door and cranks, I drive home and decide i'm going to hide my key outside the truck somewhere. I'll think "I'll tie it up with a coat hanger in my frame somewhere." So here I am in my driveway crawling around looking for a good spot. Well I ended up finding the original extra key held up in the frame by the original owner. The whole time the key had been there and I never thought to look.

I had just fallen into a deep sleep in my camper trailer , when I was abruptly awakened by a loud noise and the trailer shaking momentarily. It seemed as though a large animal had run into the camper without seeing it - I was way the eff out in the woods alone, nobody camped within a few miles.

I grabbed my headlamp and started looking out the windows before going outside to investigate. When I looked out the back window, There was my truck! I had apparently left it out of gear on the slight incline above the camper. Fortunately, the truck had rolled into the spare tire which is mounted on the back of the camper. No damage done - except to my pride.

    Didn't happen to me, but...

Was going fishing with a couple of friends several years ago. We had agreed to hit the river about 4am. My son and I decided to drive down with my boat, park and sleep for a while. One of my friends did the same (he was driving some sort of van, maybe an Astro). He had called me on the way and we were basically doing the same thing. I saw him pull up beside us, and I then watched him get up and walk to the back of his van (inside). Didn't think anything about it. Little while later son piped up "where is he going?" He seemed to be pulling down closer to the boat ramp. But he kept going. Before we could do anything, he pulled right in to the river and floated out in the middle of the creek we were launching at. Van sunk. dragged his boat to the bottom as well (it was still strapped to trailer). When I asked him what happened, he said he pulled up beside us but forgot to put it in park. Went to the back to change into some shorts and left it running to cool the inside down before taking a nap. Next thing he knew he was floating in the creek with water up around his knees. :)

One I was NOT proud of was losing my glasses. I wear some ultra-lightweight glasses (progressive) and I was walking around the house looking everywhere. My wife finally asked "what on earth are you looking for?" I replied "my glasses". She said "I suggest you go look at the mirror in the bathroom." I thought "what the hell, I don't hang 'em up, I wear them 99% of the time and only remove them for a reason." They were not hanging on the mirror. They were hanging on my nose. Felt utterly stupid.

Where do I start? Washing truck off in creek, getting stuck in 3.5 feet of water. Yeah it's clean now...
Backing up into a piece of wood sticking out of a dumpster, to through stuff into it.
The mower wont get stuck there... Surely the truck wont get stuck pulling it out....
That bush wont scratch the paint, go ahead, you'll make it.

I'll play, changed pads on my 1st gen taco and then drove to the corner store to get beer, a few hundred yards before the store the front right brakes started grabbing. I forgot to tighten the caliper bolt and could not drive forward... So I drove backwards home :) Took a day off to find a replacement bolt. Total savings doing my own brakes $0.00.
